Twelve is the number that represents the people of God, 12 Sons of Israel, 12 Apostles of Jesus. Two is the number for witness, “By the mouth of two or three witnesses…”. Twenty four, 12×2, is the number for the whole people of God.

The fact that God here uses the unified image of 24 elders to represent His ekklesia in all ages should give Christians today pause when they use language and promote ideas that necessarily separates God’s people into two different groups along racial lines.
