I trust the church, because I trust Jesus.

It is a stretch to deny that there is no “church” regardless of how one wishes to interpret the word ekklesia.

There is a body of believers, one gathers with them to worship. It is clear that that is what the first Christians did.

There was obviously a need for teaching, correction and instruction on how one was to live within the body of Christ.

I said I read with a Catholic heart. You call that bias. I could then counter and say that when you read Scripture you do so with an anti-Catholic bias. You might claim that you have some special knowledge that I don’t have when you read that allows you to see the truth and hinders my ability to do likewise. I think that’s called Gnosticism.

What I can see from our conversation though is that we both love the Lord and though we have deep disagreements about how to live in that love, we can be honorable in those disagreements.

What I meant by saying there is no earthly church building, the people gethered in homes. It was never meant to evolve into what the Catholic Church has become. The Church claims Jesus spent extra time with the apostles to justify their claims. They use Jesus changing Peter's name and telling Peter to feed His sheep three times some how established an earthly church with Peter as its head.

We can look in the Old Testament to see how God set up His earthly priesthood and who would be their successors. He goes into great detail in every thing from how they dress. How the garments were to be made. What was to be sacrificed and how. If Jesus had done that in His Church, we wouldn't be arguing as to whether He is present in the communion wafer. 

Here is a sample of who the priests are and what they wear. Exodus 28:1-

Aaron and his sons are to be consecrated and anointed to minister in the priest’s office—Aaron’s garments are to include a breastplate, an ephod, a robe, a coat, a miter, and a girdle—The breastplate of judgment is to contain twelve precious stones with the names of the tribes of Israel thereon—The Urim and Thummim are to be carried in the breastplate.

 1And take thou unto thee ^aAaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the ^bpriest’s ^coffice, even Aaron, ^dNadab and Abihu, Eleazar and ^eIthamar, Aaron’s ^fsons.

 16Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof.

 17And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row.

 18And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond.

 19And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst.

 20And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings.

 21And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with ^ahis name shall they be according to the ^btwelve tribes.

 22¶And thou shalt make upon the breastplate chains at the ends of wreathen work of pure gold.

 23And thou shalt make upon the breastplate two rings of gold, and shalt put the two rings on the two ends of the breastplate.

 32And there shall be an ^ahole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the ^bhole of an habergeon, that it be not rent.

 43And they shall be upon Aaron, and upon his sons, when they ^acome in unto the ^btabernacle of the congregation, or when they come near unto the altar to minister in the holy place; that they ^cbear not iniquity, and die: it shall be a ^dstatute for ever unto him and his seed after him.

If God had wanted a New Testament earthly Church Like the Catholic's have today, we would all know who the Pope is and why he wears what he wears.

I am sorry for the misunderstanding of what I meant by bias. I am old enough that I learned the whole world functioned in inches, feet, yards and miles. I am more comfortable with fractions then meters and milimeters. That is how I meant a bias. Because you were first schooled in Catholicism, you are more comfortable with their teachings. It is our nature.

What I can see from our conversation though is that we both love the Lord and though we have deep disagreements about how to live in that love, we can be honorable in those disagreements.
