"The Atonement Makes Repentance Possible", Ensign, Feb. 2011, 1011
We come to earth for the purpose of growing and progressing. We are slowed in our progress when we sin. Except for Jesus Christ, who lived a perfect life, everyone who has lived upon the earth has sinned (see Ecclesiastes 7:20; Romans 3:23; 1 John 1:8).
To sin is to break Gods commandments. Sometimes we sin by doing something we know is wrong, but sometimes we sin by failing to do what we know is right (see James 4:17).
Every commandment from God blesses us if we obey it (see D&C 130:2021). However, if we disobey it, there is a punishment attached (see Alma 42:22). This meting out of blessings or punishments is called justice.
Because our Heavenly Father loves us, He has made it possible for us to repent: to confess and forsake our sins and thus overcome their effects. He sent His Only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to suffer for our sins. That is, Jesus paid the penalty required by the law of justice for our breaking of Gods commandments. Because the Savior suffered for our sins, we will not have to suffer the full punishment for them if we repent (see D&C 19:16). His Atonement satisfied the demands of justice (Mosiah 15:9), allowing Heavenly Father to mercifully forgive us and withhold punishment.
Repentance is Gods gift to us. It is essential for our happiness in this life. Through repentance we become clean again, making it possible for us to return to our Heavenly Father (see Moses 6:57).
Have faith in our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ (see Alma 34:17).
Recognize our sins and feel sorrow (see Luke 16:15; Alma 42:2930).
Confess our sins to Heavenly Father and, if needed, to our bishop or branch president (see D&C 61:2).
Abandon our sins (see D&C 58:43).
Make restitution when possible (see Ezekiel 33:1516).
Forgive others who have sinned against us (see D&C 64:9; 3 Nephi 13:1415).
Live righteously (see D&C 1:32).

He who has repented of his sins, the same is forgiven, and I, the Lord, remember them no more.
By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sinsbehold, he will confess them and forsake them (D&C 58:4243).
How about the "garmies"?
Where in the bible did God mention undergarments?

Hey guys, a “real” Mormon thread as opposed to those ‘fake’ ones from the same sites. /eyeroll
Mormonism is its own worst enemy.
His Atonement satisfied the demands of justice allowing Heavenly Father to mercifully forgive us and withhold punishment. (Mosiah 15:9)...there they go again...that couldn't be plainer...it wasn't Jesus' BLOOD that was shed to save us...those drops of sweat shed at Gethsamane were the REAL saving grace.
Interesting how the Book of Mormon is quoted then the Christian Bible is used to back it up.
The irony delights...
IBPD spam.
Oh wait, that’s not right.
Excellent observation. For the LDS, the ‘Atonement’ (always a general term and never referring to the blood shed on the Cross) is all about it making US able to do our good works (the LDS religion) to get back to God.
For Christians, the Atonement (the Blood Shed on the Cross) is the ONLY way we can get back to the Father. It is HOW we get back to God, not a means for us to climb the mountain ourselves.

Thanks for making my point. To truly repent - according to mormonism - is to cease sinning. What other truth is being avoided here?
Those who receive forgiveness and then repeat the sin are held accountable for their former sins. Gospel Principles, 1995ed., p. 253. Woops, so much for remembering them no more in mormondom.
ALMA 11:37: And I say unto you again that he cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven; therefore, how can ye be saved, except ye inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins.
Oh my, the mormon Jesus CANNOT save you in your sins.
That is truth for Seekers.
OK, PD. Let me see your green card or passport.
(Maybe the 'birthers' should be looking into Mormonism a little more carefully)

Oh feldercarb

No the “fake” ones are the ones that aren’t really posted by a Mormon that have an LDS or Mormon heading that then attack the LDS faith by various means including misrepresentation and strawman arguments.
Seriously. Not hard to understand.
They just never give it a rest...though of course posting this adds to his numbers for soliciting while climbing the Mormon ladder.
Well once again the article starts on the wrong footing. We are here to Glorify Christ....it's about Him. Besides, throwing the "progressive" word out there puts you in the wrong camp to start with as far as politics goes.
He didn't 'withhold punishement' Paragon, He laid it on Christ. And His crucifixion is where it was layed....not in the garden. Sheesh, you guys just get the story all messed up.
