The Catholic Saints are syncretised with old African animist gods and they are invoked, their statues are worshipped and offerings are made to them. Talk to any unbiased observer who has ever been to Haiti for instance, for mission work or any other reason. They are tolerated with a wink and a nod by the church. It’s how they were initially proselytized, allowing them their old beliefs in combination. It’s an error that has been present to some extent with the Church of Rome from the earliest times.
