2) The Pope and the Church says that John 20 says that only they can forgive sin.
3) Therefore, they must be the only ones who can forgive sin because that is what they say the scriptures says.
Id suggest you simply get your interpretation right the first time. I did.
Nope. You got your interpretation from the Church who claims they're right. You just happen to believe them and their interpretation-all interpretation that they'll tell you.
But you may wish to consider these...
Luk 5:21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to question, saying, "Who is this who speaks blasphemies? Who can forgive sins but God alone?"
1Jn 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
I don't see anything about the Pope in this. But then again, I can understand why the Vatican wouldn't want to bring it up. Even the Jewish leaders knew it was blasphemy to say anyone but God can forgive sin. They just didn't realize they were talking to God.
It’s amazing. Why is it that anti-Catholics like you just make stuff up and then try to tell Catholics that that’s what Catholics actually believe? At least twice now you have claimed that I got my interpretation from a pope. I did not. I’ve never heard a pope talk about it - EVER. It is simply what the Bible says in John 20.
But keep on making it up. Why should you break the anti-Catholic tradition of making stuff up when you apparently have no actual argument?
Won’t be long. The calls of “santo subito” at the funeral told us that there would soon be evidence to support beatification and canonization. His spirit was strong in life and apparently stronger in death.
