Timothy and Titus are describing an ideal and they are not truly describing minimum qualifications since no man can meet all of these qualifications - not even Peter who Jesus picked.
Their behavior is not simply a matter of *Ooops, they're human. Every one slips once in a while.*
The Catholic church history is replete with vile evil perpetrated by the popes in the name of Christ. That is totally inexcusable.
Nobody is expecting perfection from a man, but anyone CAN expect far better from anyone who names the name of Christ than they have done.
Protestant televangelists are rightly condemned for immoral lifestyles which are no different in nature that Catholic clergy participate in and the Catholic clergy is routinely excused for even worse sin by Catholics every day.
That is just rank hypocrisy of the worst kind.

Well, he didn't make Peter the first pope. I guess He knew the character of man well enough to not establish that kind of absolute power and authority of one man over another.
Peter blows it time an again. That alone is evidence enough against claiming he was pope.
