The cult leader is always listed first and/or among the most prominent in the statement of faith.

It is. Want an eye opener? Attend an LDS ward service on the first Sunday of the month (Fast and Testimony meeting). Count how many times they bear witness of ‘the Church’, or the prophet (Smith or otherwise) and compare that with how many times Jesus is mentioned or they bear witness of Him.
You will be sadly shocked.

Oh, how I used to hate fast and testimony meetings. My job there as a bishopric concilor was to keep my thumb on the mic mute button in case anyone got off the standard sobbing "I know this church is true, I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God routine". An hour and twenty minutes of it, once a month will help brainwash even the most mentally valiant....I've been there.
Brings a tear to my eye to remember all the brainwashed little kids doing it, or how those who didn't feel like it were forced by being asked from the pulpit in front of everyone during any lull.
