I’m not telling anyone “what” to believe, I’m pointing out “what” is in error or is not truthful in a particular religion.
That is one of the most contradictory statement I have ever read. By telling them that their belief is wrong or untruthful you are in fact telling them not to bel;ieve it.
Do you have a theological point to make on this thread, or are you just here to contradict those who do? What IS the point of your comments? Please furnish source links.
Uhm, no it’s not.
If I present conflicting information to something they purport to believe, I’m not “telling” anyone “what” to believe. I’m pointing out the contradiction. It’s entirely up to them whether or not they choose to pursue investigating it and altering their beliefs or not.
Just as I did when leaving mormonISM.
They can ignore it and go along their merry way [as many on FR do], rebut it [as some on FR do] or investigate it [as some on FR do] or just plain start a flame war by calling detractors of mormonISM “haters”, “pigs”, “liars”, “deceivers”, etc. [as some do].
There are many options available.
Uh...Eastforker...are you telling Szonian that his belief in pointing out falsehoods held by others is a "wrong or untruthful" tenet he holds? Are you telling Szonian not to believe that he has an obligation to point out spiritual falsehood when he discerns it? (Or that he shouldn't practice such beliefs?)
...it is not my place to tell anyone what to believe or not to believe. [eastforker, post 1942]
But wait a minute. Less than 17 minutes after you told this to Reaganaut, you told Szonian that his beliefs & practice of those beliefs (post #1951) was "contradictory." To partially use your own words -- with slight adjustments in bold face: "By telling them [Szonian] that his belief is contradictory you are in fact telling them not to believe [or practice] it."
And even IF what Szonian said was "contradictory," why should YOU of all people care about that? I mean, didn't you say in post #1,942 that you "don't hold one religion as being...more truthful over other religions"??? Doesn't that mean you give credence that all religious claims to truth are equally valid? (A form of spiritual relativism). Therefore, if you adhere to religious relativism, isn't a "contradictory" statement just as valid as a non-contradictory statement of faith?
This is why I dont hold one religion as being superior or more truthful over other religions [Eastforker, post 1942]
...Apparently except for the "religion" of Eastforker (whatever it is -- even if constructed from scrap). Whatever religious vantage points you have are obviously more "superior" -- elsewise you wouldn't hold those vantage points, now would you? (You would have moved on to something else by now).
Not true at all. You can believe in the Tooth fairy for all I care. Just don't call it Christianity.
