Don’t you think that Mormons have enough places to go discuss their theology without posting in-your-face, “Joseph Smith is a Prophet” caucus threads on FreeRepublic?

Let me tell you, when I was Mormon, we had three meetings on Sunday and one during the week, plus Family Home Evening on Monday, and once-per-month homemaking activities, regional Stake conferences each trimester, and semi-annual General Conference. The outlines of the beliefs are specifically stated in each meeting and no dissension is allowed there. I suggest they go to one of THOSE meetings if all they want to do is scratch each others backs and stroke their own “holier than thou, my religion is the only TRUE religion” egos.

In fact, I question the veracity of any caucus thread for any group. If freepers want to talk privately amongst themselves, there is always freepmail.

Yes, but I also think Catholics have enough places to go discuss their theology without posting caucus threads on FreeRepublic.

But the site decided that Caucus threads were a good thing, a way to allow sub-groups of freepers to develop relationships based around something other than their conservative political views.

And people who have religious beliefs I disagree with use those caucus threads, and I don’t have a problem with that, even though I don’t participate myself.

And if the site decides to ban LDS caucus threads, I’m sure LDS folks can find a place to interact, just as I think all the caucus threads could be banned and people would find other places to interact. From what I’ve seen, the LDS threads don’t tend to have a lot of discussion anyway.

I think the caucus threads could have been banned without the dramas with this thread; I also think that perversely this thread has given a lot more coverage to the supposedly blasphemous title and subject of the thread than it ever would have received as just another of those silly caucus threads.

As to: ““holier than thou, my religion is the only TRUE religion” — Don’t we all feel that way about our religious beliefs? I certainly don’t think Catholics have the right religious view, if I did I would be a Catholic. I don’t think Baptists are right, or I’d be a Baptist. I certainly don’t think Mormons are right. I’m pretty sure you feel as absolutely confident of the wrongness of the Mormon view as they feel about yours.

That’s why religious discussions can be so divisive — it’s not a field where you tend to have compromise.
