“This is petty and annoying. I come to FR to get breaking news....”
= = = = = =
I totally agree with you, Stand 4.
I’d like to see NO religion at all on Free Republic, except for hard news items that a newspaper would print on its “Current Events” page, such as (for example) new archaeological discoveries or a change in a church’s policies or stand on some issue.
Free Republic does not need a “Religion Page” and certainly doesn’t benefit from anti-whoever posts that amount to nothing more than digital graffiti.
FR should stick to conservatism, politics, and the kind of news that might affect all of us, regardless of whether we are sectarian, agnostic, or atheist.
I wish Jim would just ban all sectarian posts, whether they are proselytizing or anti-proselytizing or refuting or defending or pro-whatever or anti-whatever.
Let’s stick to the reason we are here: trying to save America (and the world) from the onslaught of liberal “progressivism” eating away at our values like a cancer.
Who knows ???
The mormon holy ghost was naughty and therefore has not deserved a body like the mormon god...
so it has no power to do anything...
its more like an out of favor mascot...
a lap mutt of sorts...
:)
HUH? In a predominantly CHRISTIAN Nation how can that be? Why would that be; How could that be?
Yes, I’ve encountered that before - it’s part of an overall concept that Mormons seem to embrace regarding ongoing enlightenment - like a sliding scale of divine knowledge that people are given as they presumably ultimately become ready to receive the teachings of Mormonism.
ALLAH AKBAR!
PS.....Anyone who knows Joe Smith and his jive realizes mormons aren’t Christian. They are however good folk; At least the ones I’ve met. Hope they see the light.
Anyone?
Bueller?
Hello?
Thanks much, Jim!
ALL: Jim has assumed a very reasoned position.
And I'll show you that from the article posted itself.
Paragon Defender published a piece with several provocative references:
Reference I From the article: ...(Joseph SmithHistory 1:15). With every bit of energy Joseph had, he began to call upon God to deliver him from the grasp of this enemy. At the very moment when I was ready to sink into despair and abandon myself to destruction , I saw a pillar of light. It no sooner appeared than I found myself delivered from the enemy which held me bound (Joseph SmithHistory 1:1617)...
Anyone familiar with Joseph Smith-History will know that if you continue beyond verses 15-17 as cited into verses 18-20, they reference ALL Christians as "corrupt"...
...ALL of their creeds as an "abomination"...
...They are ALL wrong, etc.
The entire "First Vision" of Mormonism is highly provocative to Christians...and Mormons somehow keep expecting that we won't be provoked by references to an incident where extreme mudslinging was done on our creeds and those of us who profess Christianity!
Reference II from the article: The First Vision in the grove, the translation of the Book of Mormon, the REVISION of the Bible...laid the basic foundation of the Church, largely through the rapidly expanding knowledge and testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith...
So anybody can just come along, not know Greek & Hebrew, rewrite the Bible...and Christians will respond, "ho-hum???"
So if I rewrite the Book of Mormon, and Doctrine & Covenants, & the Pearl of Great Price -- and then post a "caucus" article announcing such a "revision," Mormons won't be provoked by that & are expected to obey some "Keep out!" sign??? REALLY??????
I can't believe how two-faced so many Mormons are!!! WHAT YOU WOULDN'T DARE STAND FOR for one measley second IF DONE TO YOUR 'SACRED WORKS' -- YET YOU FEEL YOU CAN JUST COME ALONG, TOSS THIS 'REWRITE' IN OUR FACES, AND WE'RE SUPPOSED TO JUST BE 100% NON-REACTIVE TO THAT??? REALLY???
Reference III from the article: One could research the numerous topics and cross-references of the Topical Guide and Guide to the Scriptures referring to Jesus Christ and still not understand the breadth of information on the Savior that the Prophet Joseph Smith brought to the world.
I have a copy of that Topical Guide published by the Mormons...I'll reference that in one of my ensuing posts.
“Id like to see NO religion at all on Free Republic”......

I frequently read sites like the Wall Street Journal, Town Hall.com, Real Clear Politics, and others, but I can’t recall seeing several articles a week there defending or attacking a particular religion. They manage just fine without threads like this one. So can we.
And now, good night all.
Delph
Interesting. I did not know any of that. I can only speak to the half-a-dozen Mormons that I’ve met personally on this Earth, and all of them were very kind to me.
Breaking news is the perfect place to remind people what Mormonism stands for and who Joseph Smith was, especially with all this Romney talk. I don’t dislike people who believe different than I, but Smith’s ideas were pure fantasy, and it’s hard to believe that people believe in his teachings. For one, polygamy is just another form of women’s subjugation and the bible says nothing about Smith’s alien beliefs. I grew up not far from Palmyra,NY where Smith supposedly received his “revelations”. The area, close to Rochester, was just ripe with a religious fervor that started out as a search for truth, but in the case of Mormonism, IMHO, Joseph Smith veered off course and either thought up ( maybe initially with good intentions, I don’t know) or dreamed a bunch of wacky notions he made into a pseudo religion, trying to make it sound legit by including Jesus but changing and diminishing his role. How can we believe the bible and then believe the writings of Joseph Smith? Smith’s followers didn’t even believe all he said, and before he was dead and buried a power struggle went on within his sect. IMHO Smith was the L. Ron Hubbard of his century.
Is it bothersome when Jewish people post about religion here? Clearly Christianity and Judaism part ways rather quickly and so I imagine that some on here might view Judaism as departing from their understanding of the Word of God, for obvious reasons.
