Yes, I understand that Catholics claim the Pope is the Vicar of Christ. It just seems to have been unknown to the Apostles...

I have just come off a Traditional Latin Mass (low) (this the feast day of Mary, Mother of God) with a saintly priest officiating, and my husband and I were sitting in the first pew and it was if we were sitting in heaven. I kept wondering if earth can be this beautiful inside a Catholic Church, what in the world must heaven be like?
There's nothing wrong with being a Protestant if one loves their Jesus and their faith, and doesn't give others a hard time, but the power, the beauty, the "reality" of the Eucharistic Lord cannot be denied by anyone who truly knows Him in the Breaking of the Bread. I love the Catholic faith. Missouri Synod, while nice when I was a little kid, couldn't keep me buoyant when the seas got rough.

Well, it is really only an extension of the leadership role that Peter had among the 12: he personally was given the “keys of the kingdom of heaven”.
That Peter had the role of vicar seems undeniable to me anyway...the question is to what degree it was passed on to his successors.
