Do the Mormon Gods Belong to Multiple Godheads?
Mormon Coffee (Mormonism Research Ministry) ^ | April 29, 2010 | Aaron Shafovaloff

Posted on 12/28/2010 2:27:06 PM PST by Colofornian

If God the Father has a Father, and if the concept of “Godhead” isn’t infinitely expandable to include all Gods, then our Father belongs to two Godheads, one of which Jesus is not a part of. If God the Father does have a Father, and if the Godhead is infinitely inclusive of all exalted Gods, then the Godhead that is “one” is potentially comprised of an infinite number of Gods.

Also, if Jesus becomes a Heavenly Father with his own “Firstborn Son”, and if the concept of “Godhead” isn’t infinitely inclusive of all Gods, then Jesus will belong to a Godhead that our Father doesn’t belong to.

If the concept of “Godhead” isn’t infinitely inclusive of all Gods, just how many Godheads can a God in the Mormon universe belong to?

Can you imagine Jesus saying to the Father, “I’ll be hanging out with my other Godheads this weekend”?

Individual Mormons often speak as if they were linked to one god. But they are not. They are polytheists.

Here's some of the Top 2010 FREEPER Lds threads which delineated this:

* Scripture in depth: Moses 2:26 [see post #4 of this link]
* Then They Shall be Gods [Mormonism]
* I have said ye are gods [posted by Mormon Paragon Defender]
* Dan Peterson: Exploring 'gods' scriptures
* Are Mormons are polytheists

LDS "Pearl of Great Price", Abraham 4:10 Similar to the creation in Genesis with one blasphemous difference.
And the Gods pronounced the dry land, Earth; and the gathering together of the waters, pronounced they, Great Waters; and the Gods saw that they were obeyed.

Abraham 4:27
So the Gods went down to organize man in their own image, in the image of the Gods to form they him, male and female to form they them.

SEEKERS OF TRUTH, PARAGON DEFENDER, ON DECEMBER 26th, 2010, HERE IN PUBLIC ON FREEREPUBLIC.COM CALLED BIBLICAL CHRISTIANITY A CULT, LIKE FLDS/LDS FOUNDERS JOSEPH SMITH AND BRIGHAM YOUNG, and as taught straight out of LDS "Apostle" Bruce R McConkie's "Mormon Doctrine" published 1958.

Consider his perspective when reading ANY OF HIS FUTURE POSTS, which ususally contain this image.

(Thank you for making my point...I think we can agree that polytheism is for pagans...yet most of the polytheists who hang out around FR are Mormon)

I agree. I get it completely that someone doesn’t like Mormons when there are multiple threads posted each day on how terrible they are, but they aren’t trying to destroy my liberty, blow me up or confiscate my earnings.

But hey, it is a free world. Everyone has something that floats their boat.

They believe in God and Jesus Christ.

The Mormon god was a one-time man who still has a body of flesh & bones & won't live with His people (other than married temple Mormons in good standing) forever. Is that your god? Or doesn't any attributes, characteristics, qualities, definitional boundaries matter any more...God is any THING or any ONE? (impersonal? personal? who cares?)

The Mormon Jesus is Satan's bro who beat him out in the spirit-birth order by one, born of a heavenly mom-god whose spirit-birthed billions of such babies (Jesus only one among many -- vs. the Bible's description as the "one and ONLY" Son of God...
...The Mormon Jesus, like his father, needed to be "saved."
...The Mormon Jesus was not divine from eternity past.

Seekers of truth,

If you peruse the Free Republic religion forums you will notice a pattern. There's an anti-Mormon group of people here that spends a great deal of their time attacking the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. They post regurgitated propaganda on an almost daily basis.

They have a misguided obsession. You can witness many different tactics employed that you might find quite interesting. The straw man argument is a big favorite and is frequently preceded by cherry-picking quotes or other material. After the "quotation" the attacker will misrepresent what has been said or what was meant and then attack their own interpretation.Later they will have the audacity to claim they were "only" quoting our own material.

They will of course insist ad nauseum that they are merely using our sources and are therefore innocent of any deceptive practice. LDS persons have no issue whatsoever having our scriptures or leaders quoted as long as it is presented fairly and accurately. This is rarely (if ever) done.

Another favorite is posting scripture or statements which on their own really present no dilemma. They make something out of nothing while never bringing up a single objection that hasn't been addressed a hundred times before.

You might note a couple of other tactics used to try to antagonize is the use of disrespectful or insulting terms or language and/or pictures. That's a Christlike thing to do right? Yeah I don't think so either. It does speak volumes about them though.

Some of them claim being some sort of special witness to you as being supposedly former Mormons. So someone who is an ex-member of any organization would never have an axe to grind or have reason to try to justify their actions by any means? Perhaps not but perhaps so. The LDS Church gains members from other denominations as well as others faiths all the time. This doesn't make them an expert on anything and you certainly won't hear them attacking their forner Church.

Frequently they cruise the headlines of the day seeking any story that might be twisted into making the Church look bad. Anything will do, just watch the progression of posts following it and see what I mean.

After reading their posts, I invite you to seek the truth about whatever "issue" they seem to be "revealing" or "exposing". I promise that if you do so with honest intent, the "ahah" moments you will have will be many and frequent. You will start to recognize the tactics employed to cleverly twist and attack and will likely chuckle the more you see. In actuality, there's nothing new here. It's all been addressed many times before.

The latest twist in the anti-Mormon propaganda machine is to actually go to the links provided, but then they cherry pick what they want, then quote and straw man attack that. Clever. It almost appears that they are helping you, the seeker of truth out by doing some footwork for you. Not so much. Don't be insulted, look for yourself. It's not the haystack they want you to think.

Here's a few links to get your started from a different viewpoint. I have found that the vast majority of the "issues" brought up can be found and addressed at http://www.fairlds.org/ but here's more:

http://scriptures.lds.org/
http://www.lds.org
http://www.fairlds.org/
http://www.mormonapologetics.org/
http://www.mormonwiki.com/Main_Page
http://www.lightplanet.com/response/index.html
http://www.jefflindsay.com/LDS_Intro.shtml
http://www.answeringantimormons.com/index.htm
http://promormon.blogspot.com/

Now you will likely notice the "you never address or answer our points" posts pop up as usual. All after providing the answers just as you have here.

Sometimes it is claimed that these sites present a needle in a haystack. Far from it. But if you give up before you try you won't know will you? They often state that these sites provide no answer. They just don't want you looking. It is as simple as that.

Will you wear blinders too? Seek truth. Find out for yourself. Want to chat with someone on any topic? A few of these sites provide just that. So do your homework sincere seeker of truth. Listen and read from both "sides". Make up your own mind.

I witness to you of these truths and wish you the best, in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Somewhat on topic, I noticed this Christmas season that the words of “Hark the Herald Angels Sing” are subtly different when sung by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Charles Wesley’s old hymn contains the words “Veiled in flesh the Godhead see”. On the Tabernacle Choir’s excellent Christmas album, however, it says “Veiled in flesh our Lord we see”.

I’m wondering if this is just an update of the language for the X-Box generation, or has some deeper theological meaning among our Mormon brothers and sisters.

Attention readers !

Above you will see that I posted LDS Scriptures, not quotes or stories, BUT DIRECT UNEDITED LDS SCRIPTURE that says LDS DOCTRINE IS THAT MULTIPLE GODS CREATED THE EARTH, AND US !

Then Paragon comes in with claims of straw man arguments etc.

Behold the deception of mormonism ! The article posted is about their own scripture, and I have posted several verses as proof of the Hindu-like LDS SCRIPTURAL DOCTRINE of many Gods. They are not Chirstians as they unendingly claim, and it is our duty to expose their deception.

This kind of wide spread eception has brought us Harry Reid and Mitt Romney, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !

Genesis 1:26

“26¶ And God said, Let US make man in OUR image, after OUR likeness:...”

What was your point exactly?

I tend not to get involved in these daily Mormon bashing threads, but I will offer this one and only post. Those who care to know what we believe know where to look. Those who seek to find fault will always do so.

I can tell you as a Mormon that I believe in God the Father, His son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. I believe they are one God, and one Godhead, and are united in purpose for our welfare.

I believe that Christ told his Apostles to be one, as he and the Father are one. I don't believe that means one in substance. I believe God the Father spoke from heaven at Christ's baptism and crucifixion, and that Christ prayed to His Father for help. I believe that Stephen saw 2 distinct personages at his death by stoning, Christ standing on the right hand of God. That doesn't make them any less than one God, for they are one indeed.

I just don't happen to define that as you do.

I know these daily threads won't change for you folks, I know that, but they do serve a purpose... a good one too. Keep it up, the work moves on, sometimes with your help.

I am not a Mormon and I have a long list of issues I have with their doctrine preventing me from ever converting to the LDS church. But they are good and decent people, with family values that many of us not of that church can envy. They make great trustworthy neighbors, and I thank God they are on our side when election day comes.

There are at least three OT passages that could be inferred to point to polytheism.

I did hear a retired rabbi on the radio shoot down the caller trying to say that Judaism was polytheistic because of those passages.
