Are You More Blessed Than the Virgin Mary?
Desiring God ^ | 12/15/2010 | Jonathan Parnell

Posted on 12/15/2010 5:09:09 PM PST by RnMomof7

In the sermon descriptively entitled, “That Hearing and Keeping the Word of God Renders a Person More Blessed Than Any Other Privilege That Ever God Bestowed on Any of the Children of Men,” Jonathan Edwards writes: The hearing and keeping the word of God brings the happiness of a spiritual union and communion with God. ‘Tis a greater blessedness to have spiritual communion with God and to have a saving intercourse with him by the instances of his Spirit and by the exercise of true devotion than it is to converse with God externally, to see the visible representation and manifestations of his presence and glory, and to hear his voice with the bodily ears as Moses did. For in this spiritual intercourse the soul is nigh unto and hath more a particular portion than in any external intercourse. ‘Tis more blessed to be spiritually related to Jesus Christ—to be his disciples, his brethren and the members—than to stand in the nearest temporal relation, than to be his brother or his mother. Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus, ed. Nancy Guthrie, 57.

I don’t think I’ve heard it explained so fully before, but you’re right!

Wait, isn’t the tax collector a story from the Bible? How is it that you, a Catholic, kept ignorant of the Bible would know of such a story? For that matter, how do you know about anything relating to Jesus? or God? or Heaven and eternal life? or sin? or redemption? or......well you get the idea:)

I should probably get off here right now as I am getting a little too facetious and may find myself in full blown ridicule mode. Is ridicule a sin? Wait...what is sin?

O.K., I will if you will. But I kinda liked “horizon”.

Actually, I did too -- a good quip is a good quip and not to be despised! ;-)

Oh, I went behind my priest and bishops backs, obtained a copy of the KJV for myself, along with several other translations, and *gasp* READ THEM ALL AT MY LEISURE for years and years.

Please don’t tell. ;-D

Plus, I get the idea that Christ Jesus found a few things to laugh about. I just don’t see Him walking around with a John Calvin sour puss, LOL!

1Cr 10:16 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ?

What twisted Bible has that junk translation?

I confess to stealing a glance at my husband’s KJV as well as my own. Not often mind you, but sometimes I just can’t help myself.

Yes, well, again, the question is not what do you believe. It is what do the Scriptures teach.

From Youngs LITERAL translation

The cup of the blessing that we bless — is it not the fellowship of the blood of the Christ? the bread that we break — is it not the fellowship of the body of the Christ?

English Revised Version
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ?

American Standard Version
The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not a communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not a communion of the body of Christ?

International Standard Version (©2008)
The cup of blessing that we bless is a sign of our sharing in the blood of the Messiah, isn’t it? The bread that we break is a sign of our sharing in the body of the Messiah, isn’t it?

New American Standard Bible (©1995)
Is not the cup of blessing which we bless a sharing in the blood of Christ? Is not the bread which we break a sharing in the body of Christ?

English Standard Version (©2001)
The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?

New International Version (©1984)
Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?

ABSOLUTELY INDEED:

It’s our business because if the Catholic church is passing off falsehood as truth then people’s eternal destiny is at stake. We are not going to sit by and watch people head for the abyss thinking they are safe snuggled in Mary’s embrace. She CANNOT save.

Aside from the role she played in prophecy being fulfilled, she has no significance in God’s plan of salvation for mankind. It’s about Jesus and what He did. Always has been and always will be.

Adding Mary into the mix the way Catholics and popes add her will only keep people from Jesus as they’re going to think they can go through her. That’s a lie from the pit. Praying to her is idolatry. Expecting her to obtain favors, answers to prayer, or salvation, is a fool’s errand will only result in someone’s damnation.

Mary does not belong in the picture once she bore Jesus. Her work was done when she finished raising Him and He began His ministry on earth.

God does not permit other gods before Him.

I think that is a mortal sin ...

That is what Catholics have had to do for years... hide the bible and not let the church know you have it... shame shame

A priest once told a friend of mine that she could not be a "Bible believer AND a catholic" he told her to get rid of the bible..instead she got rid of the church

IDOL WORSHIP LEADS TO HERESY.
.
IDOL WORSHIP = GROSS HERESY.

Regardless of whether it is:
--overdue focus;
--unwarranted affection;
--unfitting affection, focus;
--adoration;
--veneration;
--brazen worship;
--whatever other weasel words and constructs are used to justify giving ANYTHING to ANYONE OR ANYTHING ELSE BUT GOD THAT IS PROPERLY GOD'S ALONE.

And God is not the least bit fooled by Popes, Encyclicals, Magicstericals, Olympic class rationalizers; nor UFO facilitated fallen angel generated apparitions . . . etc.

The Vatican Alice In Wonderland School Of Theology and Reality Mangling was splintered in a thousand splinters BEFORE LUTHER. It certainly still is.

That’s human nature and certainly the nature of large bureaucratic organizations.

It is fantasy and denial and a deluded lie to pretend that the Vatican system is a seamless, homogeneous, harmonious, lock-step, wholesale obedient whole.

Get used to it, B. They love to tell EVERYONE what they believe. Lutherans are apparently no exception. LOL!

GOOD FOR HER.

It’s always the right decision to get rid of anything that gets between one and the Word of God.

Evidently you really believe that there are no Priests who say things like that.

If so, You are wrong.
