In the sermon descriptively entitled, That Hearing and Keeping the Word of God Renders a Person More Blessed Than Any Other Privilege That Ever God Bestowed on Any of the Children of Men, Jonathan Edwards writes: The hearing and keeping the word of God brings the happiness of a spiritual union and communion with God. Tis a greater blessedness to have spiritual communion with God and to have a saving intercourse with him by the instances of his Spirit and by the exercise of true devotion than it is to converse with God externally, to see the visible representation and manifestations of his presence and glory, and to hear his voice with the bodily ears as Moses did. For in this spiritual intercourse the soul is nigh unto and hath more a particular portion than in any external intercourse. Tis more blessed to be spiritually related to Jesus Christto be his disciples, his brethren and the membersthan to stand in the nearest temporal relation, than to be his brother or his mother. Come, Thou Long Expected Jesus, ed. Nancy Guthrie, 57.
Thanks for the response, I suppose, but that in no way has anything to do with your assertion that Catholics believe the Gospel is about Mary.
Yes, I think so too as is evidenced in the posts. Interesting that during this time of year where we celebrate Christ's birth...the fact the discussions are NOT about Him, rather Mary ..was she or not a virgin...was she or not sinless, etc. etc. etc. It's all about her. This should be an eyeopener to catholics...why are they not discussing the wonder of His Birth?
The Angels who announced...the shepherds who were first told of His birth...the kings who came to worship Him...All that we know is recorded around the Savior coming at this Christmas celebration time is lost on these threads on Mary. So the truth of where her importance is among catholics is clear...she IS honored more than the wonder that the Savior has arrived.

When elected Pope in 1978, Karol Wojtyla of Poland dedicated his papacy to Mary, taking as his episcopal motto the Latin words Totus Tuus, meaning Totally Yours (John Paul IIs Devotion to Mary, Inside the Vatican, special insert, May 1996).
He had these words of devotion to Mary embroidered on his papal robes.
John Paul II even used the term worship to describe devotion to Mary. In his general audience of May 7, 1997, the Pope said that MARIAN WORSHIP in the ecclesial community ... is based on the will of Christ and MARY IS THE PATH THAT LEADS TO CHRIST... (Vatican Information Service, May 7, 1997). He concluded by urging all Christians to acknowledge Marys providential role in the path of salvation.
Engraved in his wooden coffin, viewed at what has been called the worlds largest funeral, was a large letter M for Mary (The Evening Standard, London, Apr. 8, 2005).
As far as I can see on multiple threads, the Catholics have no discussion about "was she or not a virgin... was she or not sinless, etc. etc. etc. It's all about her" Catholic teaching is clear. It's the proddies arguing, God bless them. As though baiting Catholics about Mary was more important than celebrating the birth of the Savior of all mankind.
Why not drop it, and post some great threads about what you DO teach about Christ, not how Catholics are wrong, don't know scripture, elevate Mary above Christ, etc. etc. etc. Trust me, lurkers are not dumb, they can make up their own minds.
If you are not Catholic, why are you concerned? What business is it of yours?
Do the Brits worship their human queen? No. Do Catholics worship the human Mary? No.
And I've noticed that RCs treat ex-RCs differently from the rest of us rabble.
If you think they denounce you now, you should realize most of them hedge their bets because they think you were "validly" baptized into the only true faith.
Most likely you will never be seen as the outright pagan all never-Catholics are to them; instead you are a "fallen away brethren" who will most likely return to the fold either in this life or in purgatory.
Remember, to them it's "once a Roman Catholic, always a Roman Catholic."
Hard to tell, no doubt, on some of these threads, but they talk to ex-RCs with some grudging concern, as if they know more about your own soul than you do. The rest of us who attend "defective gatherings" simply are headed for the furnaces.
Lucky you, eh? 8~)

Just part of preaching the Saving Gospel of Faith alone in Christ Alone. Paul didn't have a problem with calling idol worship what it was.
2 Cor 3:5 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. 4 The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. 5 We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.
Neither did the Jews. Neither do the Catholics. So what?
Thanks for the ping. What a wonderful thought this is, and so true. The spiritual is always deeper and more meaningful than the physical. I am so thankful that we focus on the former.
AMEN AND AMEN
. When the dwindling number of Catholics who still think there might be a few on your side interested in Truth and Reason respond, one of those on your side who has clearly and frequently made, with great firmness, statements which are not only false but easily shown to be false says we think the Gospels are about Mary!
And you leap to agree! You all want us to think that your side can be faithful in large matters of truth, but your side misrepresents the obvious. You all want your discernment of hidden things to be sovereign when you do not see clearly what is in front of your faces.
Faithless in little things, you demand acquiescence in great things.
Oh, you know the answer: they lie and abuse because they only want to help us.
The principle shared characteristic of most of these threads is falsehood born of spite. They do not derive as much joy from knowing Christ as they do from the notion that they know Him better than we do.
Catholic theology 101:
Mary is now the oven, which makes sense as Christ is the biscuit.
Mary is now the oven, which makes sense as Christ is the biscuit.
lol. There's no end to the lunacy. Mary has more titles of respect and veneration than Jesus. It's endless. Rome cannot rush fast enough to fall at her feet and weep for the "salvation that comes through Mary."
"Mary gives us supernatural life...From what we have said, we see that she brought us forth on Calvary...
Mary gives us supernatural life???
Mary brought us to Christ at Calvary???
Ungodly paganism that explicitly denies the work, purpose and responsibility of the Trinity alone. For men not to see they are bowing down before the stock of a tree speaks to the darkness of men's souls which have not been illuminated by the Holy Spirit to know the things of God and to discern truth from lies.
After preaching the truth of Christ risen to them, all that's left is pity.
Incredibly cheeky blasphemy and idolatry.
