Well, it’s kinda like this. I have an earthly mother and an earthly dad. They will always be my parents by birth. Nothing can ever negate that fact. Now, we may have a falling out and not talk for days, weeks, months, or years. We are not fellowshipping, we are not communicating with one another because one of us has sinned. In the case of God, we may break fellowship by sinning, but He is still my Father because I have been born-again (spiritual birth). I now have divine life because I have been born of God. Divine life cannot be destroyed. Why? Because by nature it is everlasting! It cannot die! I may rebell through some sin and break fellowship with God; however, I am still His child and always will be. The part of me in rebellion is the old carnal nature. That nature will be gone forever when I leave this body “to be with the Lord.”
If you don't have fellowship with God, do you think that's because God doesn't want fellowship with you, or because you have demonstrated that you prefer your sins to fellowship with God? (Not a trick question! It's the latter, every single time.)
If you prefer your sins to fellowship with God, don't you think he's going to give you what you want?
Divine life is everlasting, but presence of divine life in your soul is not. It had a beginning, and it can have an ending if you sin mortally (cf 1 John 5:16-17).
