Sure, it’s possible to write songs about things other than conservatism. (This statement seems a bit pointless.)
But in the particular case of John Lennon, all we got was a plague of spiritual rot and moral decay delivered in what were essentially remixes of musical patterns which have on a fundamental level been known to man for thousands of years.
That is hopeful story, than you- Pas Bill
It's a small thing, but to be accurate, the name of the song is "With a Little Help from My Friends". The "get high" part is a lyric in the song, but it's not the title.
Comic Sam Kinison cleaned up (off drugs etc IIRC) only to die in a car crash
Lennon cleaned up, settled down to raise his (second) son,
put out an album with well-written, good songs about heading into middle age, for all those of his generation were doing the same thing...seemed happy and contet...but was shot to death...
If you saw the LennonNYC film on public TV recently one pal of his mentions that in the studio they had a pic of his son
Sean hanging up, as if to remind himself of his family and
what he was working for...and one time he asked the pal over into a room “and I thought he was gonna get out some drugs or something...and he gets out...chocolate...
and says... ‘shh! don’t tell Yoko!’” LOL
I dunno, he seemed to be settling down and cleaning up
and happy toward the end only to die of lead poisoning.
“I can hardly wait
To see you come of age
But in the meantime we’ll have to be patient
‘Cause it’s a long way to go
A hard roe to hoe...”
—Beautiful Boy, John Lennon
...”it’s curling!...”

National Lampoon Letters FROM The Editors:
Dear Sirs:
Imagine no possessions. What a terrible, terrible thought.
Yoko Ono
New York City
Thanks Profound- point well taken-
I think George was a nicer person but Ringo is a good chap. Paul was a phony and john was lousy to his first wife and son.
People are known by the company they keep:
Paul - duets with Michael Jackson
John - mainly hung out with a did “music” with Yono.
George - Roy Orbison, Tom Petty (dylan and Jeff Lynne). Dylan and Jeff Lynne are okay but Orbison and Petty are A1.
Ringo-I forget who have been in his solo group?? Billy Preston?
Excellent post. He was a VERY troubled soul who appeared to be coming into the light as evidenced by his later song writing.
“Before you go to sleep,
Say a little prayer,
Every day in every way,
It’s getting better and better”
and
“Well, I tried so hard to stay alive
But the angel of destruction keeps on houndin’ me all around
But I know in my heart
That we never really parted.
Oh, no.
They say the Lord helps those who helps themselves,
So I’m asking this question in the hope that you’ll be kind.
‘Cause I know deep inside
I was never satisfied
Oh no.
Lord, help me, lord,
Please, help me, lord, yeah, yeah, yeah
Help me to help myself,
Help me to help myself.”
There are many more.
” But he did marry a sushiwoman, sushiman!”
He married a baka woman !
” They probably gave her a (one-way) Ticket to Ride.”
Unfortunately , people like her , “ idols “ , are worshipped in Japan .
Not only is it curling, it’s rocking out too! All of the time. Good yeah good. Right all right.
Well, on history’s positive side, we were avoided a horrendous Beatle reunion!
Ringo married Barbara Bach. That’s good enough company!
And John was the coolest. Paul was the cutest.
Their talent was awesome.
Yes, I agree. I saw The Beatles in concert in 1966, wore Beatle boots, the whole nine yards, yet when rock 'n roll was taken over by Disco in the '70s I turned to Counrty Music and never looked back.
The entire time my kids were growing up, I rarely played any Beatles songs around them, but when my 19 year-old daughter came home from college to visit last Christmas I decided to put on The Beatles Rubber Soul album from my old record collection. Listening to the entire album for the first time in her life, she said: "My God they were good, I could listen to that all day."
A few years ago, one of our local tv stations had on a documentary about John & Yoko; showed them walking away naked with their naked butts shining. It was during the day when kids would be out of school and flipping channels.
I called the station. The guy there said in effect, “We only try to give the local viewers what they want.” So, I got nowhere with that, but told them anyway.
He nebver wrote anything decent musically after 1965 or so; he was a burnt out drug head the last 10+ years of his life. Quite a bit over rated.
“I dont care about his politics, that was his business,”
Well, the problem was he did not keep it “his business” but went around deconstructing traditionalism till his dying day. This is what all those “artists”from the sixties were trying to do. The French started deconstructionism in literature and art, and the rock musicians just copied the intent in their lifestyles. Nothing is “just” anything; there are always reactions to actions. Lennon, whose music I did not like, was an arrogant rock star who thought he could make the world into his own image by sitting around naked in public with his strange wife. I am not sure how directly he influences society today, I would not give him that much credit, but his kind of leftist intellectualism is what we are dealing with in government this very minute.
***Rock n Roll is just music.***
You take that back!
