Actually, after some of the truly ugly things said about the Mother of God here on FR’s religion forum, I wonder if these people are familiar with any good mothers?
Because children with healthy, loving mothers and grandmothers love them, feel safe with them, revere them, go to them for comfort and peace...in their mothers’ and grandmothers’ older years, they help them, protect them, provide for them, and defend them.
In this society today, with all the damage done to the nuclear family, we concentrate most on the absence of fathers, when in reality the fracturing of the mother/child relationship may be much more serious. Unwed, prostitute, drug addicted, ignorant, petty, vain, obese — helps me understand why some would be so vicious about Christ’s Holy Mother, the humble maiden who was set aside by God to be the Mother of God His Son...set aside for all eternity to be the first follower of Christ, to bear Him, nurture Him, cuddle and play with Him — to be the Mother of the Church, as well, to give us all her joy and mercy, to point us ever to her Son. Her beauty and goodness are a reproach to the mothers of the bigots, thus the bigots hate.
Just sayin.

Hatred is a cancerous disease. Over time it consumes and destroys reason, love and beatitude if left unchecked. I suspect that the anonymity of the internet allows some the opportunity and platform to vent their inner most destructive and hateful thoughts, things they would never say in polite company, in front of their children and grandchildren, fellow congregationalists, or face to face to a Catholic. Others are pure evil.
I think you may be right on the money, JA. For one reason or another, these souls were probably deprived of any love, and hated themselves all their lives. They found a sanctuary where they are loved, even exalted, without having to learn how to love back, so they turned their unrighteousness into faux righteousness, and boast about it.
Others seem to be Catholic apostates with an ax to grind, who left the Church because they couldn't stand someone telling them to love rather than hate. So they found refuge in those pulpits where God not only loves but also hates, so that they may also be justified din hating, as they Opel admit. No matter how you turn it around, it's pride. The NT tells us pride brought down even angels.
