I was watching the series on John Adams a while back and noticed how they had to leave things in "God's providence". This intrigued me and sometime in the mid-1900 the saying just seem to disappear. Rarely is it used anymore. Yet the founders felt it a very important stepping stone as a matter of understanding faith.

Praise God on all His infallible Word and Providence. God most certainly is the ONLY GOD and does NOT share His Glory with any false gods nor images (Exodus 20:3,4,5) [Catholics read these verses]. Most certain our God is the great and mighty Creator of all things (Exodus 20:11, six days creation) and only our God upholds all the earth and universe and all grace saints (non-Catholic) in our perfect salvation unto heaven directly; by His wisdom God upholds all this. God is absolute in His providence and His Infallible Word (Bible), His Infallible foreknowledge of us saints before the foundation of the world [naming each grace saint believer inside God’s book of names]; His eternal decree and His will for us-ward whom are His saints by His calling only by Almighty God, not by man’s will nor organization.

A wonderful chapter of the Westminster Confession of Faith, Harley.

I. God the great Creator of all things does uphold,[1] direct, dispose, and govern all creatures, actions, and things,[2] from the greatest even to the least,[3] by His most wise and holy providence,[4] according to His infallible foreknowledge,[5] and the free and immutable counsel of His own will,[6] to the praise of the glory of His wisdom, power, justice, goodness, and mercy.

AMEN!

You're right about an appeal to "providence" being passe these days. More's the pity. God's providence governs all things. Who better to appeal to?
