Prediction: A desire to known the future, to walk by sight.

"God has given us a means of prediction which is lawful."

KEYWORDS: divination; prophecy; soothsaying
Much that masquerades as "prophecy teaching" nowadays is an attempt to come to terms with the news of the day (as filtered through the lamestream media) in a way that connects with our faith perspective. To make sense out of what is going on around us.

How much of this is healthy?

Ping — a brief video, a bit over 3 minutes long, but information-dense food for thought.

>>"God has given us a means of prediction which is lawful."<<

That would better be written “prediction based on law”. What I heard in that clip was completely worldly and physical law.

Rushdoony did say and believe some good things but one needs to keep in mind that interspersed in much of what he believed and taught were many racist and bigoted beliefs as well. The words he used for Blacks, Latinos and others could not even be included here.

His writings are much of what the left use to accuse the religious right of racism and bigotry.

Rev 1:3
(3) Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.

Was Jesus lying to those He addressed in this verse? Or was He giving them news they could use? If "at hand" = 2,000 years, I wouldn't trust Jesus to deliver pizza, let alone salvation.

No need to read into His Word more or less than what is there. His Word is veritable and true.

In almost every age, antinomianism and gnosticism like to team up to resist the work of God. Some people way back when were so offended at the idea that "the Word was made flesh" that they preached a hologram Jesus. I mean, how undignified would it be for the eternal Son of God to have nocturnal emissions, and defecate! Horrors! Unthinkable! Too physical! After all, as every good little neoplatonist knows, spiritual > physical, and truly spiritual people have no interest in physical matters!

I hope you're not suggesting we resurrect Docetism, in the name of having a less physical, and more spiritual, religion! FWIW -- Satan is a totally spiritual being -- does that make Satan good? As my wife can cheerfully attest, I have a physical body. Does that make me inferior to that purely spiritual being, Satan?

You so totally missed the meaning of my comment that it would be foolish for me to respond.

We are always tempted to read into God's Word things that aren't there, and to ignore things that are. In one of his short stories, G K Chesterton's villain was a Bible-believing Christian who found in the Bible such things as harem-keeping. GKC's bottom line? We need to sit down and read the Bible together, as a family. We can see further if we have prehensile feet, and are willing to stand on the shoulders of giants. The people who insist on re-inventing Christianity on their own often end up re-inventing God -- or confusing themselves with God. As long as we are fallen men and women, we will need each others' help. Respectful dialog can help all of us grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
