It speaks volumes about the chasm which exists between us and the Eastern Rite Catholics in communion with Rome. At least the Latins have the perfectly valid point that their sacred art works are not icons and don’t pretend to be. This melding of Eastern and Western just doesn’t work, not in Ukraine or Greece or Serbia or Russia or anywhere.

So much for the unity of Catholicism.

how many different flavors of Catholicism are there? 30,000 or so?

Yes, and I have noted the many varying differences among the catholic churches. I don't understand why , though, they are so opposed to this. Revelations speaks with detail about the various positions of each of the churches...all were in a differing place of growth or retreated, or were stuck. Catholic churches are really no different than Protestants when it comes to differences between their individual churches....some are closer to each other...others further apart. I think God leaves room for all to grow and develop within their church and why so important to go to one he leads us to

BTW I do follow this thread allot...but am in the busy season at work. Doing catch up here at home today and visting FR in between chores! Ha! I think I am addicted!

“So much for the unity of Catholicism.”

The Church, sadly, is rent with schisms and has been ever since Pope Dioscorus of Alexandria refused to accept the dogmatic declaration of the two natures of Christ by the Council of Chalcedon in 451 and later when Rome went its own way in the 11th century.

“how many different flavors of Catholicism are there? 30,000 or so?”

Oh, no, not at all. There are basically three “flavors”, the Churches whose hierarchs are in communion with the Bishop of Rome, (what FR chooses to call “Catholic” churches), the Churches whose hierarchs are in communion with the Patriarchs of Constantinople, Antioch, Alexandria, Jerusalem, and Moscow (the Orthodox Churches) and the Oriental Orthodox Churches (the Non Chalcedonian Churches) whose hierarchs are likewise in communion with each other. Within each group there is an absolute identity of Faith; as between the groups, there is a greater or lesser degree of identity, with the Orthodox and Orientals, greater, with the Orthodox (or Oriental Orthodox) and the “Catholics” lesser.

Yeah. Exactly. And each flavor has at least 5 different accounts here at FreeRepublic!!! XD

See if you can get them all to give up their multiple accounts. That was funny when you did that last time!

I think we are witnessing the 'nut' variety of Catholicism on FR. Never have I seen such craziness at their twisting Scriptures to 'fit in' and their attempt at making the RCC teachings/traditions valid according to Scriptures.

It makes me appreciate God's Word more and The Reformation.
