There is a word for it, theophany. If the icon was attempting to communicate that then, ok, I see it. But Jesus is NOT a created being like an angel And to an Orthodox believer it's not even an issue. Jesus' aureole has a cross and the word "Ο ΩΝ" which is the Greek equivalent of the Hebrew Tetragrammaton YHWH, which is only seen in Jesus' afterglow. So, no Orthodox would ever thing the middle angle is a created being, but merely appearing as one. It's obvious it is God who is appearing as one of the angles.
You'd be amazed at the theological significance of every detail of every icon.

You'd be amazed at the theological significance of every detail of every icon. I understand why the icons were used. They told theological truths. I wonder though, what happened to your amazement of them?
