In Christ Alone lyrics
Songwriters: Getty, Julian Keith; Townend, Stuart Richard;
In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm
What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless Babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save
?Til on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live, I live
There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again
And as He stands in victory Sin?s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ
I imagine this must come naturally, because I really can't imagine anyone choosing to completely miss the point.
Who is going to offer the bread and wine if Jesus is not physically present (considering that he said "do this in memory of me"). You?
And you managed to completely miss my explicit mention of the fact that the one making the offer is no Jesus Christ, but indeed a human being in need of the Savior.
Metmom...I didn’t realize the catholic church sees their priests as actually “Christ” himself...or even an actual representation of Him via their ‘bloodless offering” of themselves and “becoming Christ” in their worship service...as some have stated. (Although I do realize they see the Pope as His represntative....which He isn’t of course.)
Does the average catholic understand what this practice mimics and the affront to Christ it is? or do they just sit thru it all go thru the motions because thats what catholics do.
metmom: I don't know. You'll have to ask them [sic].
And you are not Protestant?
Maybe they're just being obedient..... 1 Timothy 2:8 I desire then that in every place the men should pray, lifting holy hands without anger or quarreling;
I should have known it would be a mortal by the name of Paul the protesters obey. Talk about traditions of men!
Actually, when it is in the Bible, no matter who penned it, isn’t it the Word of God?
Not when it comes to Paul. He falls out somewhere between Church father who wrote inspired Scripture and loony tunes, depending.......
Depending on who you're talking to and what doctrine of theirs he either supports or condemns.
The Eucharistic offering doesn't involve slaughter.
Without the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins
What's in the blood that "remits" sins?
If it's a bloodless offering, then why teach that the cup becomes the blood of Christ?
There is no shedding of the blood. Look it up.
And *offering*??
Yes, which part don't you understand? Christ offered bread and wine.
The priest is offering Christ?
The priest is simply repeating what Jesus asked to be repeated.
This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, declares the Lord: I will put my laws on their hearts, and write them on their minds,"
Jeremiah was not writing about Christians. The fact that the author of the Book of Hebrews decided to Christianize Jeremiah is another thing.
And your point is?
You cannot be serious.
Annalex considers Catholicism to be Pauline Christianity, Paul’s epistles accurately reflecting Catholic doctrine.
Other Catholics have other opinions.
There is a collection of quotes here on gamecock’s homepage....

Not again. Why, because a mortal by the name of Paul told you so?
I would have liked to see that! :)
Not only is she serious,
She’s quite accurate.
I’ve been repeatedly shocked by such nonsense on FR at the fingers of some of the Rabid Clique RC’s.
Just stopping in for a second, but that's a great addition, thanks. Happy New Year! :)
It is a presupposition. The Bible as the Word of God is a priori, just as the very existence of God is a priori.
Paul has the personal testimony of Christ Jesus but that’s not good enough since he’s not besotted with the Greek philosophers and monkish asceticism, AND he’s a mortal! per k50.
While his pinging me provides numerous opportunities to ignore him at times I have to laugh out loud.
Whoa, Nellie. I thought the whole point of Catholic chauvinism was its unity.
The whole priesthood and sacrifice of the mass goes against Scripture, as does so much Catholic doctrine.
It's really just the slow march back to the law with the Judaizers.
The original Apostolic Churchs had Elders/Oversears and Deacons, there were no priests.
Thank you and blessed year 2011 to you, Bro.
Try as you might to understand it does escape you time and time again and will continue to do so....
“Spiritual things are spiritually discerned”...All the debates, reading and study will only “offer” you head knowlege....which has it’s place. But without His Spirit that’s as far as one can go....the eyes of man see at best dimly....those without Christ are blind to understand.
....and just how could you possibly tell the difference?
