In Roman mythology Cupid usually appeared as a winged infant carrying a bow and a quiver of arrows. Cupids arrows would induce wounds of inspired love or passion in all of his victims. Cupid is frequently invoked as a fickle, playful, and deviant (perverse) individual. Cupid sounds much like a child of the sixties. . Eros is the Greek name for this being and also the Greek word for love (i.e., LUST), which describes the unbridled sexual passions of fallen man (Rom. 1:24, 28, 29). The sole desire of Eros love is to find self-gratification or self-fulfillment in another individual. Eros love may give the individual a genuine feeling for or attraction to someone, but the bottom line of this love is that it is rooted in a narcissistic (self-centered) mindset (Gal. 5:19; Eph. 5:5; James 1:14-15; Jude 1:10).
"Eros love may give the individual a genuine feeling for or attraction to someone, but the bottom line of this love is that it is rooted in a narcissistic (self-centered) mindset."
Eros love NEVER seeks to give for the betterment of another individual. Eros love only asks the question, What can you give me? What can I get from you to satisfy my hungry, famished soul and my unbridled sexual passions? The reality is that Eros love can never satisfy the unregenerate soul of fallen man; only God can (Matt. 11:28-30; John 6:35; James 3:8). Eros love is a burning fire.

Eros is never mentioned in the New Testament, only selfless love and brotherly love are mentioned. But the situation is totally opposite today where eros lust is dominant and the others, especially Biblical charity are forgotten.
most of the women I’ve met seem to live by this philosophy. I used to be gentleman now I’m putting that on hold until I meet a lady.
I just wish Cupid would use those d*mn cute arrows in all the pictures, instead of the friggin’ hunting broadheads he’s been using on me. Sheesh.
never mentioned in the New Testament?
huh? (check lust in there)
It’s not totally opposite brother, remember - there’s nothing new.
Lust was there then. What do you think Adam saw when he beheld Eve without the light of innocent holiness surrounding her?
We’ve been making the same decision as he did since then. Choosing, not being deceived.
At least we come by it honestly, after a fashion.
It’s just more...viral.
I always remember the words of the mountain man when Jeremiah Johnson asked him if he didn’t get lonely for a woman ... “There is no rock in this world harder than a woman’s breast.”
...and I can find NO tracks on it...
:)
Lust is, but that Greek word is epithumia. The Greek word eros is not in the NT either as a verb or noun.
I would think that God would look favorably on a husband and wife sharing with each other such an intense, powerful bonding of kindred souls.
It is possible that the difference between the intense sexual sharing that you speak of, in a marriage, might be the difference btwn eros and lust. (hat-tip to the greek kangaroo)
Such a bonding is blessed, is it not?
I’m thinking the original intent of the post was to point out how easy and understandable the ‘morph to self’ was. It is an excellent point. SELFishness comes naturally, it’s extrapolation points to how easily the eyes lust after this ending world.
apostrophe oops! (before the squad gets here!)
Sexual pleasure is sanctified by the Bible WITHIN the confies of marriage, but sexual love without sacrificial love will never see a marriage through.
In deed He would. Have ever read the Song of Solomon in the Hewbrew text? sha-zam!
In marriage its all good. It is God’s design and blessing.. that would be in the agape love though.. a huge difference.
lol.. that is where he needs to be!
dude, that aint what the message was about...

that is indeed true... in the Hebrew there is a word that is kind of like the greek word... but God’s does not use it in the NT.
Puritanism: The haunting fear that someone, somewhere, may be happy. -- H. L. Mencken
Full time night woman? I never could find no tracks on a woman's heart. I packed me a squaw for ten year, Pilgrim. Cheyenne, she were, and the meanest bitch that ever balled for beads. I lodge-poled her at Deadwood Creek, and traded her for a Hawken gun. But don't get me wrong; I loves the womens, I surely do. But I swear, a woman's breast is the hardest rock that the Almighty ever made on this earth, and I can find no sign on it.
I knew my version was not quite right, from having looked it up once some years ago, but one likes ones memories the way one remembers them.
