satan also likes to present half truths!

Satan presented NO truths when he sent his minions to Joseph Smith, if in fact there ever WAS a "vision".

There were many visions about the time that Joseph smith had his famous one.   One of them is the 1815 vision of Norris Stearns.

NORRIS STEARNS, 1815
"I saw two spirits, which I knew at the first sight. But if I had the tongue of an Angel I could not describe their glory, for they brought the joys of heaven with them. One was God, my Maker, almost in bodily shape like a man. His face was, as it were a flame of Fire, and his body, as it had been a Pillar and a cloud. In looking steadfastly to discern features, I could see none, but a small glimpse would appear in some other place. Below him stood Jesus Christ my Redeemer, in perfect shape like a man---His face was not ablaze, but had the countenance of fire, being bright and shining. His Father's will appeared to be his! All was condescension, peace, and love."

Was this a previously unpublished version of Joseph Smith's "first vision," one might ask? No. It was the claim of one Norris Stearns, published in 1815, in Greenfield, Massachusetts---not far from where the Joseph Smith Senior family lived in Vermont.

The most intriguing aspect of Stearns' "vision," is how he described the Father and the Son as two separate, distinct, human personages. LDS faithful, of course, have long asserted that that was one of the "truths" that had been lost from the world until Joseph Smith's First Vision. It was a major point in the late apostle Hugh B. Brown's 1950's sermon "Profile of a Prophet." But Joseph may have merely been inspired by Stearns, or some other contemporary source.

C'mon REsty, tick tock. You've had plenty of time to check on the Fairs and Farm sites as well as Google.

Here's a hint: the answer is in a 19th century work of rather dull fiction/fantasy. It starts with a "D" and ends with "octrine and Covenants"

I too had learn that Presbyterian was not true at the age of 20 and to read that Joseph Smith has also confrim it Praise the Lord.

Uh,m just WHAT was untrue about PRESBYTERIANism?

I'm quite sure that if you go to a doctor, and he says, "You're sick.", that you will NOT accept that as a FINAL answer.

You'd PROBABLY want to know just what your SICKNESS is.

Thus the CONSTANT pounding on MORMONism's door to produce the SYMPTOMs of the untrueness JS accused PRESBYTERIANs of.

Satan presented NO truths when he sent his minions to Joseph Smith, if in fact there ever WAS a "vision".

Nine different VERSIONS of joey's 'vision' - contradict each other on key points (age, location, visitors, purpose, message, etc). With joey's history of plagerism, copying a pre-existing 'visitation' story would be par for the course.

Another published vision was Solomon Chamberlain, 1816, who's vision was published in and distributed where ever he went preaching, particularly Palmyra NY (hmmmmm) was so close to that of smith's it was noted by LDS historian Richard Bushman.

...the Bible said many things that the clergy dismissed

BOTH the BIBLE and the BoM contained the command "Each should have ONE wife" but the sinful leaders of MORMONism decided that THEY were 'special' and 'merited' MORE!

Is there a mormon equivalent of the Catholic Limbo?

By your own words you do not know much of the Lord’s Chruch only the anti propaganda!

I'll need to run this past a couple of peepstones to determine whether it is a YES or a NO.

Then you could have the ladies' relief society stand outside the maternity wards and proxy baptize every single baby who is born. Oh wait! LDS don't baptise babies - you have to be eight. I guess all the kids throughout the centuries who die before age eight are screwed. Is there a mormon equivalent of the Catholic Limbo?

Well, T Minus Four's implied question is a candidate for Q of the Year: Let's ask it over & over & over again...especially every time baptism for the dead is brought up:

Mormons, what say ye about all those kids who die before age 8? What? They're just "perfect angels" who make salvation on their own and don't need Jesus or baptisms?

All those toddler temper tantrums are just expressions of their rightful displeasure with Mom & Dad not giving them what they want when they want it?

This reveals the Mormon theological lie that God "levels the playing field" by giving all the pre-Jesus or those outside of gospel earshot a chance to receive the Mormon gospel. Because those who die 7 & younger -- like three 7 yo a bunch of Mormons executed at point blank range as part of the 9/11 Mountain Meadow Massacre in 1857 in Southern Utah -- aren't baptized and aren't proxy baptized.
