There is a near universal acclaim for the pastoral visit of the successor of Peter to the United Kingdom. The crowds, the depth of his messages in every venue, the obvious hunger of the faithful for the truth of the ancient faith, all added together to make this trip both memorable and historic.
However, though Pope Benedict has physically departed and returned to Rome, the mission he elaborated in this historic four day visit has only just begun. It is the New Evangelization of the Church in the United Kingdom and then, through her, the unfolding of a new missionary age dedicated to re-Christianizing the European continent.
The reaction of the secular Press to this Papal visit is worth noting. Only a few months ago that press was predicting the Pope would be arrested upon arrival. If not, that he would at least be greeted with throngs of angry protestors. Ironically, though there were some protests, the numbers were relatively small. The real numbers in this story were the massive crowds which gathered in every one of his venues to listen to this humble and deeply reflective Christian leader. The response of the secular press is revealed in comments made by David Wiley of the BBC news:
"What has struck seasoned observers of papal tours is that people everywhere have responded spontaneously to the Pope's evident humility and his ability, even when talking serious theology, to communicate simple moral concepts in plain language. As David Cameron plans to say later, as he bids farewell to the Pope, the 83-year-old pontiff has caused the whole country to sit up and think."
However, the Pope did more than call the UK to "sit up and think", he called the Nation to kneel down and pray...

In his missionary trip to the United Kingdom the Pope proclaimed, without either compromise or triumphalism, that the fullness of that Gospel is found within the full communion of the Catholic Church. He pointed out that the path toward the recovery of Western Civilization is through the recovery of its Christian soul.He called the faithful to a New Evangelization and called for a Re-Christianizing of Europe. This missionary task will not be without opposition. He also knows it will require great sacrifice and heroic virtue.

What’s sad about that is I recently had a family member pass away who was into wearing the brown scapular, etc.. I looked into it and apparently it is used to conjure Mary to intercede or get one out of hell faster but you have to leave it on until the Saturday after your passing or something like that.
The funeral home removed it the same day they received the body.
Guess it didn’t work...

The consistent misunderstanding of Catholic Christian teaching on every thread having to do with Catholicism on this site never ceases to amaze me.

If you want to comment on my church and its beliefs, be certain that you do no harm to me, or the Church, but, it kind of belittles you that you won’t take the time understand the fullness of what the Church teaches before you take the time to trash her again and again. She has been persecuted before and she is still here.

I’m with you. I don’t know who the Catholic-bashers on FR are, but they sure do show up en masse when there’s a thread/story abut the Pope.
I say, go Pope! He was wonderful. I support him fully. and I’m a Methodist.
Yeah, it’s a mystery to me especially when, if they bothered to explore it, they would find that they have much more in common with their Catholic brothers and sisters than they would have ever expected.
Why ridicule a belief that you don’t share? The belief in the Scapular obviously brought your relative comfort, how can that be a bad thing.
I know of some stranger things that I have seen in “evangelical” churches and they make the belief in the Scapular look pretty darn tame.
I still wear my First Communion Scapular. Don’t knock it if you haven’t tried it.
Do you know what a strawman argument is? You should, because you just made one. Mary doesn't get anyone out of hell, because nobody gets anyone out of hell once they're there.
If you'd like to discuss actual Catholic beliefs, in a sane, charitable manner, instead of misrepresenting them to make them look foolish (where in the Bible does Jesus teach you to do that, again?), we'll be here.

Have you ever considered that YOU might be wrong and your relative might have been right?
And of course what follows is the typical catholic explanation for why some who do take the time to explore Roman Catholic dogma and then reject it on the clear teaching of the Bible. OK, here we go, improper instruction in the catechism by the blessed teacher provided by Rome sweet Rome. Then of course, don't forget to blame of brother Martin and the rest of the 17th century wrecking crew. And when all else fails, there is always the flat out rebellion and satanic blindness that causes disunity.
O'h and don't forget to remind those rebellious souls that Rome wants them to unite with them (under the careful teaching of the Bishop of Rome), ignoring the fact that at best, the rebels don't have strong feelings one way or the other. Remind them daily of their trangressions (while overlooking theirs) call them all kinds of names as if name calling will get them to change their minds. And one last thing, don't forget to make the claim that there are 60,000 unique protestant demominations vs. one holy Roman Catholic church.
If you avoid the heretics and schismatics and go directly to the Carmelites you'll find:
The Carmelite Scapular is not:
* a magical charm to protect you
* an automatic guarantee of salvation
* an excuse for not living up to the demands of the Christian life
It is a sign:
* which has been approved by the Church for over seven centuries;I'm wearing mine right now and that's the way I've always understood it and had it explained to me.
* which stands for the decision to
o follow Jesus like Mary:
o be open to God and to his will
o be guided by faith, hope, and love
o to pray at all times
o to discover God present in all that happens around us.
If Our Lord is both fully human as well as fully divine, I don’t think that anyone is bound to be closer to him than his own Mom. I’m thinking, if she’s anything like mine, I’ll put money on her any day.
I seriously doubt that, short of not living up to the ideal that he left us with, there is very much you or I or anyone else could do to “insult” our Lord’s sacrifice. That’s the point of the sacrifice in the first place.
They are here now.
Entertain them at your own risk.
They enjoy being anti Catholic.
All the silly debating they try to ensnare us into is a huge waste of time here on Earth IMO.
