I love this guy. He really tells it like it is. I wish I could have seen the look on that woman’s face.

Indeed. Wouldn’t that have been a hoot?

Diana Hayes, a Georgetown "theologian", spoke once in my parish, about 2004. Topic: Liberation Theology. She's Black.

I waited until she had finished. I asked her how she could consider herself Catholic when she was an in-house speaker for Call To Action, an organization which holds a fistful of heretical views.

She said, after a back and forth got a bit testy: "I have the mandatum. Do you have the mandatum?" [Note: The mandatum is fundamentally an acknowledgment by church authority that a Catholic professor of a theological discipline is teaching within the full communion of the Catholic Church.]

I said: "No, but I can read the documents of the Church."

This led directly to my banishment from teaching religion at the Catholic high school where I work.

Hayes had been empowered by her bishop and Georgetown, and my bishop knuckled under to this visiting royalty.

This woman at the Notre Dame game has been empowered as well. We have much work to do, don't we?

It’s very discouraging you were forbidden to teach religion, but not surprising. Speak up, and you get slapped down. Similar type things have happened to my husband as well, who will not remain silent either when poor doctrine reaches his ears. And, yes, you’re right, we have much work to do.

Country Club Christianity
Vort-2010-09-10

Hello everyone .. and welcome to the Vortex .. where lies and falsehoods are trapped and exposed .. I’m Michael Voris.

The term used to be W-A-S-P .. White Anglo-Saxon Protestant. It referred to a rung on the social ladder whose inhabitants were all neatly buttoned up and in lock step in their aloofness.

They came from the same or similar somewhat sneering contemptuous crowd who looked down on practically everything and ALWAYS on anything Catholic.

For the most part .. the WASPs have or are aborting and contracepting themselves right out of existence.

In their place .. has arisen a new crowd of what we call .. Country Club Christians.

Now .. to be certain .. they share much in common with their waspy predecessors.

But this crowd is more accommodating to Catholics. Much more. Of course, truth be told .. Catholics in THAT crowd have become much more accommodating to the former WASPs.

Let me give you an example. This past week, I was down at Notre Dame for the seasonopener against Purdue. I graduated from ND and was sitting in the stands in section 23 watching the Irish band do its thing at halftime.

Directly behind me were two women .. a soft-spoken one and a .. well .. lets just say ..

LESS soft-spoken one.

The Less soft-spoken one was going on and on about how the bishops had been wrong about protesting Obama at Notre Dame. How the bishops had no right to speak out about Obama being honored at Notre Dame.

If you watch the Vortex with any regularity .. you know we talk about the bishops being wrong on many things .. but the 80+ who condemned this action were right.

Anyway .. the overly-talkative one said she had taken courses in seminary for years and had this degree and that degree and that she was the expert on everything Catholic.

Then she said how disgusted she was at the protestors who had walked around campus and gotten subsequently arrested. She said they in her words .. ACTUALLY pushed baby carriages around with dolls in them covered in blood. The last words she got out of her mouth before I snapped were .. IT WAS NAUSEATING.

That’s was it. I turned around and said to her quite firmly .. nowhere near as nauseating as the REAL thing.

She was thunderstruck.

I can imagine her thoughts. Who is this guy to challenge me. I have degrees. I have a big mouth. I’m a liberal social justice 60-something left over hippie who knows everything.

See .. this woman is typical of the country club Christianity I’m talking about. You know .. there are simply some things you don’t talk about in polite society.

The bishops shouldn’t call out evil. People shouldn’t talk about evil .. much less put on a goulish parade highlighting it. Please.

We would never stand for that at the Club. It’s simply not done.

Meanwhile.. evil advances .. children die .. souls go to Hell .. but as long as Country Club Christian etiquette is preserved .. well .. we’ve done what we can.

When will these country clubbers simply retire go away peacefully. And for the record ..

the sweet soft-spoken lady was defending the truth.

I just thought I’d step in a throw a block for her. We were at a Notre Dame game afterall.

GOD Bless you.

I’m Michael Voris.

No. I didn't lose my job; I still teach other subjects.

I tried every which way I could to have our bishop give me a reason. I wrote the "long, heart-felt letter" which no doubt gave him some laughs. I wrote the "justice letter", attempting to appeal to his sense of fair play, in that were I to teach elsewhere in a Catholic school, would this be a black mark on my record.

More silence. My last phonecall, to the secretary/Holy Roman Empress: "He won't respond to you, and neither he nor I will give you a reason for not responding."

Ouch. Hardball when they have a mind to. I only know that my confrontation with Hayes was the reason because I finally got the pastor to admit it. I tape-recorded the exchange, as evidence that I was respectful, but firm.

God Bless You for sticking to what is right. I went to her college site then book site. It’s totally crazy. She labels it Progressive Catholicism. Good Grief! I will pray for you.
