Any ministry needs money to survive. However, Jesus was not in then least interested in worldly profits, nor were his disciples (except perhaps for Judas). Jesus had the wealth of heaven at his disposal, and the ability to multiply loaves and fishes. He did not need worldly wealth. He asked his followers to contribute mainly as a testimony to their faith.

The people surrounding Jesus and the Apostles are the ones who gathered their resources and supported the mission.

Jesus did not charge an admission fee when he spoke.
