Brethren, if we live in the spirit, let us also walk in the spirit. Let us not be made desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Brethren, and if a man be overtaken in any fault, you, who are spiritual instruct such a one in the spirit of meekness, considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye another's burdens, and so you shall fulfill the law of Christ. For if any man think himself to be something, whereas he is nothing, he deceiveth himself. But let everyone prove his own work, and so he shall have glory in himself only, and not in another. For every-one shall bear his own burden. A Stone Upon A Stone
While the world weeps for the trials and travails that visit in this time of diabolic disorientation, we must remember that Christ said no stone will be left upon a stone for those who reject and mock Him. They must realize a stone has no life, and a slippery rock gathers no grace. But the Rock established by Christ is the foundation of everlasting life, and one need not weep if sowed in the Spirit and not the flesh. Christ alone can bring a stone to life, can raise one from the dead, can restore grace. Those, who sow of the flesh, reap corruption because they join the chorus of chaos, causing the slippery rock of the world to become all the more slipperier in the descent toward hell.

A woman follows the funeral procession of her only son as it moves out of the town of Naim towards the cemetery, accompanied by the wailing of the official mourners. A widow without other children, she is now alone and inconsolable. She is not unlike many parents today who have lost their children to the spirit of the world. They are not dead in body, but in soul.
Mortal sin destroys the divine life in the soul. It dulls the taste for the spiritual and the desire for Heaven. It coarsens the mind and creates a tolerance for evil. You can see the effects of Mortal sin in the nightmarish society around us. People have become lewd in their behavior, and in their language. Even in school little children are being exposed to the most crude and sinful instruction. There are almost no innocent and virginal souls left, as the Blessed Virgin Mary predicted about our times at Quito, Ecuador, to Mother Mariana of Jesus. Christian parents are grief stricken as they see their children falling into drug and alcohol abuse, and an immoral lifestyle.
Movies and TV produce gangsters, killers and perverts, and an anti-Christian educational system destroys faith by promoting secular humanist values. Our educational institutions did not just deteriorate; they were hijacked. The children have been subjected to a process of dis-education, i.e., brainwashing, according to John Dewey's humanistic and anti-Christian philosophy. Says one commentator:

"Christians have lost the war for American schools - which have been scrubbed clean of the Christian principles and traditions that once guided those institutions, and are now filled instead with every conceivable form of propaganda and perversion" (D. Kupelian, Why are Christians losing America?, WorldNetDaily.Com, Aug.9, 2002).
We are, indeed, witnessing a funeral, taking part in the world's funeral rites. Like the widow of Naim mourning the death of her son, the true Church mourns the spiritual death of vast numbers of her children. There is no natural catastrophe to compare with this spiritual death, whether earthquake, tsunami, hurricane, flood or asteroid. Pandemics of the most horrible diseases virtually wiping out the earth's population are not to be compared with it, since the death of the body only takes away natural life, whereas the death of the soul means the loss of Heaven and suffering the torments of Hell for all eternity.
Meanwhile, the contemporary conciliar church takes little heed of the flames threatening our children as it dances to the tune of the secular culture that controls it. It allows them to remain in their moribund condition by not pointing out the deadly character of sin. Most of its preaching is vain, and its sacraments void. Since it has no remedy for the falling away of its children, it celebrates their funerals, and announces their arrival in Heaven. Purgatory and Hell are no longer preached.
"Let the dead bury their dead" ( Blessed Apostle Saint Luke 9:60 ), said Our Lord of the spiritual deadbeats of His time. Those who wish to be raised to life like the young man of Naim must throw off the shroud of the poisonous culture that surrounds us. We must stop thinking like the spiritually dead, talking like them, living like them, doing what they do, enjoying what they enjoy. We must remember that we have been born again with Christ through our Baptism, and now must live as those who are on their way to eternal life.
"For you have been reborn," says Blessed Apostle Saint Peter, "not from corruptible seed but from incorruptible, through the word of God Who lives and abides forever… Now this is the word of the gospel that was preached to you. Lay aside therefore all malice, and all deceit, and pretense, and envy, and all slander. Crave, as newborn babes, pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow to salvation; if, indeed, you have tasted that the Lord is sweet" (1 Blessed Apostle Saint Peter 2:23;25b-2:1-3).
God's plan for us is that we should become saints; the devil's plan is that we should become failures. Look at the failures all around us, sliding further down that slippery slope as each day passes, on their way to Hell where they will be punished for their unbelief, their disobedience and their immoral behavior. The greatest scandal for us is that we continue to stand by and allow the devil and his cohorts to carry out their plans for our failure as a nation, as a Church, and as human beings. We are willing and passive cooperators in our own demise. Are we to accept the base moral standards our secular humanist masters impose on us? Will we drink the poison cup they have mixed for us? Heaven forbid! And may God have mercy on us and wake us up before it is too late!
"This, therefore, I say and testify in the Lord," says Blessed Apostle Saint Paul, "that henceforward you are not to walk as the Gentiles walk in the futility of their mind, having their understanding clouded in darkness, estranged from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart. For they have given themselves up in despair to sensuality, greedily practicing every kind of uncleanness. But you have not so learned Christ… But be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, which has been created according to God in justice and holiness of truth" ( Ephesians 4:17-20;23,24).
The world could still revive. Like the young man of Naim it could respond to the command of Christ: "I say to thee, arise!" ( Blessed Apostle Saint Luke 7:14 ). It could hear the Gospel of Jesus Christ, be instructed by His incomparable teachings, and be filled with His life-giving Spirit, the Holy Ghost. If not, it will see the words of Our Lord fulfilled, "Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there will be great earthquakes in various places, and pestilences and famines, and there will be terrors and great signs from Heaven" (Blessed Apostle Saint Luke 21:10b,11 ). Jihad is straight ahead if we do not heed the Lord's warning. May we live instead to hear these words:

"And he who was dead, sat up, and began to speak. And He gave him to his mother. But fear seized upon all, and they began to glorify God, saying, 'A great prophet has risen among us,' and 'God has visited His people'" ( Blessed Apostle Saint Luke 7:15-17). †
