Our devotion to Our Holy Mother is based on the principles outlined by St. Louis Marie de Montfort in his book, True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin. This is the same book that Pope John Paul II said was the most important book he ever read pertaining to the Blessed Mother. It must have had a profound effect on him because he dedicated his papacy to Our Lady by saying, I am yours, Mary. His favorite prayer after the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass is the rosary. The most important book JPII ever read...
The book in question:
TREATISE ON TRUE DEVOTION TO THE BLESSED VIRGIN St. Louis de Montfort
That’s the major problem with Roman Catholicism. You’re never good enough. That’s what tormented poor Mother Teresa.
And you know what? We really aren’t good enough. No one.
Not Mother Teresa. Not the pope.
That’s why Jesus had to die. To forgive us and cleanse us from our sins, that no amount of good works could ever do.
The soul that sins will surely die. We can’t eliminate our sin by good works because the only payment for sin is death. Good works don’t pay for sin. Suffering doesn’t pay for sin. Because they aren’t the appropriate payments for sin.
Forgiveness is the only way the debt can be removed.
That's exactly what led me to buy Ratzinger's "need for a global authority with teeth" bilge ("Charity in Truth".)
To see for myself "whether this be so."
And as bad as I thought the encyclical was, and no doubt as bad as you thought the book on Mary worship was, both have exceeded our expectations.
More's the pity.
Idolatry from the top down.
Great.......
The recent popes and even non-recent ones, if you read their writings, make no secret that they worship Mary and “consecrate their all” to furthering this worship. Pope John Paul found some old black Roman statue in a ditch and promptly installed it in Poland with a shrine, I believe, as the black madonna. I’m sorry, but this is absurdity
I must have missed the part of the thread where you were "accosted with" the book. I can't even picture what that might mean . . .
Though I did think you went to a lot of trouble for something you think is worse than useless -- unless it was the Internet Fairy who tracked down the book, scanned it, and managed to get pages on the web!
BTW, did you ever have any luck growing blueberries?
LOL! Don't you have any idea how ridiculous that sounds?
12. Finally, we must say in the words of the apostle Paul, "Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, nor has the heart of man understood" the beauty, the grandeur, the excellence of Mary, who is indeed a miracle of miracles of grace, nature and glory. "If you wish to understand the Mother," says a saint, "then understand the Son. She is a worthy Mother of God." Hic taceat omnis lingua : Here let every tongue be silent.
I saw a little bit of the discussion about Mother Teresa and thought about jumping in, but why bother they won't understand. They are more caught up in the works and devotion to being poor than belief.
I'm fortunate that the church I attend is able to support a lot of missionaries. They come back from time to time and talk about what they encounter. It's really interesting because whatever it is they run into they try and create an opportunity to preach The Gospel. They don't let pagan believers think there is any way to salvation except through Jesus Christ and they don't rely on their good works to do the preaching for them.
Pretty sad people believe that nonsense. All they have to do is pick up a Bible and read the Truth. No church controls your immortal soul.
WELL PUT.
We do. And when we come back with links, you (pl) tell us *No, that’s not right. Try again*.
And again, and again, and again,.....ad nauseum.
Instead of sending us off on wild goose chases which amount to no more than a waste of time, why don’t YOU guys provide what Catholic church doctrine really tells us?
Or don’t you know either? And when we find contradictory material from the same site, why don’t you explain the discrepancy? After all, it’s your church.
INDEED.
Well, well, well... Imagine that...
Yet another Protestant backs a statement with facts - No surprise there... Seen it happen over and again.
Yet again (I predict), no apology will be forthcoming for the brazen attempt to discredit the messenger... No surprise in that, either.
No doubt, the previous preference for documents containing a nihil obstat imprimatur will be discounted somehow, and the whole sordid ordeal will be waived off as a fluke of some kind... Ho Hum... We've done all this before, too.
But what is exceptional, what will stick, is the damning blasphemy that the evidence represents. There is no doubt that such "meditations" demonstrate the practice of goddess worship - It just cannot be denied.
...And that which does not blatantly align with the pagan "queen of heaven" mantra, seems to specifically and egregiously abscond powers and titles from God Himself. That anyone could attempt to defend such vile tripe in any fashion shows the depth of blindness and confusion to which they adhere.
But in the midst of the ensuing cacophony, defend it they will, to be sure.
GOOD JOB, Quix!
I think this early line in it says more than enough for me:
NECESSITY OF DEVOTION TO OUR LADY
What idolatrous tripe right in the beginning.
Why do they even bother with even their RUBBERIZED BIBLES?
“No church controls your immortal soul”
No middleman needed.
MORE idolatry without even looking for it:
The Son of God became man for our salvation but only in Mary and through Mary.
Well put.
And as bad as I thought the encyclical was, and no doubt as bad as you thought the book on Mary worship was, both have exceeded our expectations.
More’s the pity.
INDEED.
