That is, many 100 Yuan bills attached to the man’s clothing.

The first one makes me think that we have little to complain about with our lives compared to most others in the world. Contrast that with the Jet Blue drama queen.

re: I'd be very interested to see how quickly anyone could put the three photo illustrations together and produce an outline for one sermon. I get it. It's Sat. morning and you're at a loss for a sermon for tomorrow morning! The Pastoral version of writer's block?

It shows that you can connect anything to the Bible, Because the bible is about everything and also you can make a religion out of anything that can be connected to the Bible.

He has them singing a few extra verses of each hymn while he frantically refreshes his connection.

Picture #1— Ecclesiastes-life is meaningless without God/Jesus to carry us from life to death to *eternal* life (crossing the river=crossing over?) We can’t do it on our own, we must rely on God/Jesus only

Picture #2—Of course, symbolic of Moses raising the serpent in the wilderness to heal the wandering Israelites bitten by serpents, those who gazed upon it were healed, those who didn’t believe were lost—(prophesy about Jesus being raised on the cross); again reliance upon God/Jesus only for healing *everything* in this mortal life

Picture #3—we as ‘natural’ man are in bondage to the physical things in this life—money, fame, power, etc. (Ecclesiastes) but we don’t need/won’t want any of those things if we rely FULLY on God—He provides for ALL of our needs (sometimes answers our prayers the way we want, sometimes not, but all in his Perfect Timing and conditions)

You could connect all three pictures by using the theme of reliance on God/Jesus for ALL of our needs, physical-mental-emotional-spiritual. :*)

There was a preacher here in the US who preaching nothing but John 3:16 for years...

Try that one at least once...

He did for hundreds of sermons...

Thousands were saved...

For God so loved the world that He gave His only Begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting Life.. John 3:16

Quick story on the struggles of man, his fallen nature and how harsh life can be without God.

A reminder of Sauls story of conversion to Paul and The Romans Road to salvation as a way out of bondage.

And maybe Psalm 98:1-9

How is this; Photo 1) All are subject to death, latest statics show 10 out of 10 die. So in essence we all are carrying the certainty of death around our necks. Photo 2) This is from the Old testament story blended in with the new. The Israelites had been freed from bondage in Egypt, but because of their complaining they were plagued by poisonous snakes, so God directed them the put an image of a snake on a pole and whoever looked at it when bit, would be healed. (Numbers 21:6-9) Together with the cross is referring to when Jesus was conferring with Nicodemus in John 3: specifically in verse 14, when Jesus says that just like when the People were healed when they looked to serpent on the pole. “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up. That whosoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life. A Picture of what Jeus would do on the cross. Photo 3) The rich rules over the poor and the borrower is servant to the lender Proverbs 22:7
Thank you for the lesson. God Bless

“I’d be very interested to see how quickly anyone could put the three photo illustrations together and produce an outline for one sermon.”

I’ll give it a try.

Here’s an outline using Romans 7:24 through 8:6.

PHOTO A. THE CONDITION OF MAN.
Romans 7:24 — “Who will set me free from the body of this death?”

One early Roman method of execution of a murderer was to take the body of the victim and tie it, arm-to-arm and leg-to-leg, to the murderer’s back. The assailant would be forced to “wear” the decaying corpse until the decay started the criminal’s skin to decay, ending in the death of the killer.

Sort of like the American taxpayer being tied to all this nonsense. :) But that’s another sermon.

Some think Paul might have been referring to this Roman execution method in Romans 7:24. Your photo of the guy carrying a coffin is similar.

PHOTO B. THE OFFER OF CHRIST.
Romans 8:1-2 — “1 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who don’t walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.”

The snake being nailed to a cross is a reference to Moses’ lifting up the serpent on a pole for the people, afflicted with a plague, to look upon and be healed... a direct prophecy looking forward to Christ on the cross.

PHOTO C. MAN’S MIND SET ON THE FLESH.
Romans 8:3-6 — “3 For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh; 4 that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;”

Mankind will do ANYTHING to keep God out of his mind. He’ll go after money, fame, attention, approval, distraction, fun, work, leisure... anything to keep from thinking about God’s love, his eternity, or his real purpose on this planet.

It’s all bondage. Only Christ brings real peace, love, forgiveness, freedom, hope and purpose.

This makes me want to preach so bad! I will be planting a church in the next couple of years. Can’t wait! :)

Hope this helps!

Yours, PastorBooks

SALVATION (screen name) was respectful to the caucus and did not post his contribution, but sent it to me privately. So to return the respect, I will take the liberty to post his contribution here.

----------------------------------------------

Unless a man pick up his Cross and follow me, he shall not see the kingdom of heaven.

Can’t post on the thread, but this is what I would preface everything on......the suffering.

I believe it was a quote from the Deacon of this last week, Saint Lawrence, who was asked to turn over the riches of the Catholic Church.

We can all learn from him — he gathered the poor, the destitute, the starving, the orphans, the lame, the widows and told the emporor, “Here are the riches of the the church.”

Of course, he was martyred for his love of Christ and loyalty of the Church. Usually a saint (let alone a deacon) does not get a Feast — but Saint Lawrence does!

“I will be planting a church in the next couple of years.”

When did the term, “church planting” replace “home missions”? Just curious.
