[CATHOLIC CAUCUS] Two Rhyming Exorcisms on your St Benedict Medal
Canterbury Tales ^ | 8/7/2010

I love the Saint Benedict Medal. I wear one around my neck and keep one on my Rosary. The medal is a sacramental recalling the the power of Christ and his Saint Benedict against the wiles of Satan. As you may know, the medal contains a number of exorcisms. Here they are.

The arms of the Saint Benedict Cross contain the initials of an exorcism rhyme: C S S M L - N D S M D

Latin:
Crux sacra sit mihi lux!
Nunquam draco sit mihi dux!

English:
The Holy Cross be my light;
Never the dragon be my guide.

In the corners of the Cross are the letters C S P B: Crux Sancti Patris Benedicti ("Cross of Holy Father Benedict").

Above the Cross is the word Pax ("Peace"), the Benedictine motto.

Surrounding the circumference of the medal are the initials to the words of another rhyming Latin exorcism: V R S N S M V - S M Q L I V B

Latin:
Vade retro Satana!
Nunquam suade mihi vana!
Sunt mala quae libas.
Ipse venena bibas!

English:
Get behind me, Satan!
Never suggest vanities to me!
Evil are the things you pour,
Drink your own poison!

Probably most of us are familiar with the St Benedict medal, but all might not me. Here is some more information on the medal for those who are not familiar and/or would like some more information.

Fascinating data, thanks for posting this Mark.

Now on the other hand, down here in the Deep South, the traditional Southern Baptist Exorcism involves the deacons of the church taking the suspected possessed member of the congregation out in back of the church annex and beating the devil out of him, heh. ;)

Well, interestingly, not all that long ago my niece (a member of a fundamentalist sect) had a roomie who was afflicted badly. The deacons and elders of the church came over and prayed, annointed her, and so on. No impact. I bought a St Benedict cross, had it properly blessed, and mailed it to her with instructions to wear it at all times.

This roomie was a former Catholic btw (a Filipina).

Interestingly, they were finally able to get in contact with the local Catholic priest (they had tried for weeks beforehand to do so after the intercessions of the deacons and elders from their church seemed ineffective...but could never get past his pant-suited "sister" secretary). The priest came over, blessed the house and performed some deliverance prayers on the roomie (I understand it was a rather violent reaction when she was initially sprinkled with holy water...).

It has been several weeks since...and the roomie hasn't had a single problem since that time.

And, yes, I understand that she is in the process of being reconciled with the Church.

I give credit to Jesus Christ through the intercession of St Benedict for that deliverance.

Amen! Great to hear that ‘good report’.

Praise God from Whom all blessings flow,
Praise Him all creatures here below,
Praise Him above, ye Heavenly host,
Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost!
