When making doctrine from a scripture it is wise to find supportive scripture, because God will make a truth observable over and over..

The reasons Catholics cling to James is they THINK it supports a works based salvation NOT TAUGHT ANYWHERE ELSE IN SCRIPTURE

But james was teaching what he had heard jesus teach over and over.. a tree is know by its fruit ...... think of scripture that says "see how they love one another" james is addressing how the world sees our faith he says not one word about salvation in the text..not one word.
