The answer to that is the wine and bread retain all the physical characteristics, taste, color, chemical, of wine and bread but really deep, deep down are blood and flesh.

A is B but A still is A in all ways except A really is B.

Particularly in the further reaches of

Alice’s rabbit hole during the first 30 minutes on alternate full moons when one is partaking standing on one’s left foot.

Unless the Red Queen happens to wonder by and then everything is reversed. But I can’t begin to guess what that means.

Maybe it means the wine turns into flesh and the bread turns into blood???
