She had a daughter who died in 1972 of leukemia, at about age five. It is thought that the little girl vampire of "Interview With a Vampire" was based on her daughter. For a long time after that, she had her husband Stan (they had a long and loving marriage) drank too much, but stopped completely when she got pregnant with Christopher, her only child. Stan died a few years back.
I find her writing to be compelling, and her personality appealing. I've followed her career for some years. She seems to be going through a bad patch. Could probably use a prayer or two.
