That's alot of "alones" you got there.
James 2:11 "Do you see that by works a man is justified; and not by faith only? "
Uh, actually, James 2:11 says: "For He who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said, "Do not commit murder." Now if you do not commit adultery, but do commit murder, you have become a transgressor of the law."
Perhaps you mean James 2:24.
Nevertheless, in James 18, he says "show me your faith without the works, and I will show you my faith by my works." It seems quite clear to me that James is saying that, to other people, our faith can only appear to be alive if they can see works. Of course, God does not need to see works to know our hearts.
I also find it interesting that James points to Abraham's willingess to sacrifice Isaac as proof that works justify, yet Paul (in Hebrews) clearly says that it was Abraham's faith that justified him.
In considering the whole of scripture, it seems clear to me that works do not save, but that they flow from the "new person" we are made when we have been saved by the Lord.
