There is a thing called a “joke.”

In “jokes” people play with clashing meanings of words and with unexpected juxtapositions of ideas.

Jokes also usually presuppose that the speaker is not to be taken literally, and sometimes not seriously at all.

Recognizing jokes is a useful social skill.
