Have you considered the possibility that Wayne may have converted to Catholicism because he'd rather a Catholic die than a Presbyterian. Possible?

One thing that’s hard for Catholics to grasp is - Christians are IN CHRIST once born again. And when we die, we die IN CHRIST. John Wayne, a Christian, knew that. When you have Christ, you have it all.
Keep religion out of it - it’s all about JESUS! John KNEW HIS SAVIOR all his life. Catholics just can’t handle that Truth, with them it’s - you need the church, you need the church!

Of course it's possible.
Have you considered it was highly unlikely he would have waited until he was comatose before he made this impossible decision?
