From the beginning, the Church recognized those who were holier, who were more, whose imitation of Christ stood out from others and who exemplified a Christian life and practices. They are called holy, beatified, sainted. It is a practice of recognition.

We are commanded to not be a respecter of persons.

Our trying to determine one's level of holiness puts us in the position of judging based on outward appearances, which we are also forbidden to do.

We don't know another's heart and are in no position to make accurate determinations of their level of personal holiness.

Some of you guys are real good at it. But let us examine that statement. I am assuming that you refer to:

Romans 2: 3 Do you suppose, then, you who judge those who engage in such things and yet do them yourself, that you will escape the judgment of God? 4 Or do you hold his priceless kindness, forbearance, and patience in low esteem, unaware that the kindness of God would lead you to repentance? 5 By your stubbornness and impenitent heart, you are storing up wrath for yourself for the day of wrath and revelation of the just judgment of God, 6 who will repay everyone according to his works: 3 7 eternal life to those who seek glory, honor, and immortality through perseverance in good works, 8 but wrath and fury to those who selfishly disobey the truth and obey wickedness. 9 Yes, affliction and distress will come upon every human being who does evil, Jew first and then Greek. 10 But there will be glory, honor, and peace for everyone who does good, Jew first and then Greek. 11 4 There is no partiality with God.

This passage means that Paul holds the Catholic view that it is what you do that matters, not the station in life that you are born to or acquire. Doesn't mean what you say it means.

Our trying to determine one's level of holiness puts us in the position of judging based on outward appearances, which we are also forbidden to do.

That's why the Church does not easily beatify or recognize sainthood and it normally takes decades or centuries of prayerful study. Where is it forbidden to judge others?

Romans 16: 17 7 I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who create dissensions and obstacles, in opposition to the teaching that you learned; avoid them. 18 For such people do not serve our Lord Christ but their own appetites, and by fair and flattering speech they deceive the hearts of the innocent.

Paul is telling us to judge others and for us to act accordingly in avoiding them. What does Jesus say?

Matthew 7: 15 9 "Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep's clothing, but underneath are ravenous wolves. 16 By their fruits you will know them. Do people pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 Just so, every good tree bears good fruit, and a rotten tree bears bad fruit. 18 A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, nor can a rotten tree bear good fruit. 19 Every tree that does not bear good fruit will be cut down and thrown into the fire. 20 So by their fruits you will know them.

Judge others and act accordingly. We Christians and all the Paulicians have a common command here.

We don't know another's heart and are in no position to make accurate determinations of their level of personal holiness.

Nobody is asking you to.
