By the way, I also used to get $20 a song from the Ogden funeral homes when I was going to college. You have said confusing concepts Norman. On one hand you are saying works are not necessary - yet on the other you are saying that works ARE necessary. I was being specific - since by mormon use - salvation = godhood. If works are not necessary - why the mormon emphasis. If works are a requirement - why the minimizing them in previous posts? Works of ordinances are works never the less.

Further when you cite “Doctrine and Covenants 137’, the context appears to be refering to judging the dead based upon their earthly works - not post death work.

Your scriptures also state in ALMA 5:27-31: “Have ye walked, keeping yourselves blameless before God? Could ye say, if ye were called to die at this time, within yourselves, that ye have been sufficiently humble? That your garments have been cleansed and made white through the blood of Christ, who will come to redeem his people from their sins? Behold, are ye stripped of pride? I say unto you, if ye are not ye are not prepared to meet God. Behold ye must prepare quickly; for the kingdom of heaven is soon at hand, and such an one hath not eternal life. “

It appears from Alma the works must be performed in this life.

In DOCTRINE AND COVENANTS 25:15: I read - “Keep my commandments continually, and a crown of righteousness thou shalt receive. And except thou do this, where I am you cannot come.”

This also appears to state that all of the works must be performed while living.

I also read in ALMA 34:32: “For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors.”

This appears to rule out continuation of works in the afterlife. So to say that people in this life don’t need the temple ordinances to become gods still has me puzzled.
