Why would their very own words be viewed in such fashion?

because the LDS are TOLD by their leaders that they are, that the ‘antis’ lie, take things out of context, are bigots and VERY VERY few bother to actually check it out, they are so brainwashed or fearful of ‘thinking themselves out of the church’ that they don’t do any research on their own.

Those who do the research, almost always end up leaving.

In short, their leaders say we are ‘bigots’ and ‘hateful’ and they don’t question their leaders. When the prophet speaks the thinking has been done.
