One who does not wish to be humiliated should humiliate himself ... it would at least render the matter predictable.

Isn't that what we do in Confession, anyway?

Well, that's a good question. For me, going to Confession doesn't really feel like "humiliation." (Maybe I'm just not doing it right!) After all, God already knows my sins before I go into the confessional, and I've already told Him that I know I messed up, and Father already has a good idea, and he's not going to tell anyone ... so "externally," as it were, I could go on just as before, and nobody knows.

To me, "humiliation" implies that everyone, or at least people I want to impress, are going to know that I'm not all that plus a real-meat cheezburger after all.
