Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val
O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.
From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.
That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
Dominicus Gabriel Mariae
O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.
In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love
That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,
Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.
Unnngh. As an editor, I can't stop myself ... but it's nothing personal ...
Are you suggesting that "Christ" and "the truth of God's Word" could ever be in conflict?
whole religions have been formed on loving Christ, yet denying/changing/deminishing God’s Word. You know that. No, Christ and the truth of God’s Word can NEVER be in conflict. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God”.
Because I have such respect for Mad Dawg, I will join you tomorrow. But I do so with trepidation, as I seem to have offended some of you already, without meaning to offend. I do apologize if my comments were taken not as I meant them to be. Mad Dawg knows. Maranatha!
for later
CERTAINLY AND LIKEWISE. No forgiveness necessary but fully given just in case.
Though I think you are about as offensive as a white bunny baby when one needs a warm fuzzy.
Me . . . on the other hand . . . LOL.
Daily pings with a reposting of the prayer in the pings would be good.
I have it all printed several times for different places I’m usually still and prayerful at.
Good stuff, alright.
AMEN! AMEN!
WELL PUT. THX.
A good essay, exhortation.
Thx.
Well put.
THx.
Lovely. Thanks for posting...
THE WHOLE THING will fit on one page in Word if one chooses narrow margins and puts it in two columns.
Bless you Bro.
I think it’s wonderful you added this. I have been thinking these exact same words and saying them in my head since yesterday! MUST be the Lord!!
The litany of humility is absolutely beautiful! What a great reminder.
“Grace be unto you and peace, from God our Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ.”
This is your a little bit before 7:00 AM (EDT) wake-up call!
“The prayer of a righteous man availeth much.” Maybe we ain’t righteous, but maybe the prayer of a bunch of sinners will avail somewhat. Can’t hurt, huh?
Please scroll to the top of the page and join in prayer.
God bless you all!
Please add me to the list. Thank you!
Apparently the cardinal was quite a guy. I was turned onto this prayer by my dear friend and former pastor, Fr. Brian Mulcahy, O.P. We agreed that it is almost frightening in its listing of what it means to cast all one’s hope on Jesus.
Yep. Frightening. Bring it! I may fail, but Jesus will stand.
I have taken the liberty of adding your name to my morning ping list for this time of prayer.
I’m up.
