Litany of Humility

Rafael Cardinal Merry del Val

O Jesus! meek and humble of heart, Hear me.

From the desire of being esteemed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being loved, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being extolled, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being honored, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being praised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being preferred to others, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being consulted, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the desire of being approved, Deliver me, Jesus.

From the fear of being humiliated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being despised, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of suffering rebukes, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being calumniated, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being forgotten, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being ridiculed, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being wronged, Deliver me, Jesus.
From the fear of being suspected, Deliver me, Jesus.

That others may be loved more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be esteemed more than I, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That, in the opinion of the world, others may increase and I may decrease,Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be chosen and I set aside, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be praised and I unnoticed, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may be preferred to me in everything, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.
That others may become holier than I,
provided that I may become
as holy as I should, Jesus, grant me the grace to desire it.

Closing Prayer

Dominicus Gabriel Mariae

O most gracious Lord Jesus:
To redeem an undeserving humanity
You gave up everything you had.

In your mercy, grant us the grace
of despising all things but you
and your love

That we may know the joy
you brought to us
through your dolorous Passion
and Death,

Who live and reign in might and bliss
with the Father and the Holy Spirit,
One God, in everlasting glory.

“Lord, do not abandon us, however much we try to push you away.”

AMEN!

(We push hard with our attitudes and actions sometimes...don’t we? ;-/ )

In the days when ecclesiastical conventicles permitted me to preach I used to go on about the "That's great, Jesus, thanks! I'll take it from here," attitude.

We are, at our best, very silly creatures.

a superior level of humility

Quite. It's nice to be acknowledged for the hard work I've done in achieving this great jewel of Humility. I just wish more people would have the grace to notice.... uh .... AAGGGH!

(At this point one of those great Indiana Jones "bad guys turning into goo" things should happen ...)

The 24th day of the Noxena for Humilidad.

So, bubbas and sissies: Are we going to take this through August? Does anyone have any thoughts on the subject?

This continues to mean a great deal to me, and while I continue to be the arrogant boob I have been most of my life, I am very grateful for the opportunity to share prayer with ALL of you, and "in a special way" (Note to Protestants, etc: When a Catholic says "in a special way" he means, "I don't know WHAT way, but I just wanted to say something") with non-Catholics.

I'm ALL about discussion and thought and stuff, but I think praying together is a way we offer to get out of the way and to let God work in our lives. That matters to me.

So bless you all.

Whenever the last day of the Noxena is, I am going to celebrate with a big slice of Humble Pie and a glass of the Milk of Human Kindness. ;o}

I have to make a confession. I missed a few days. :(

August is good for me.

By the power invested in me by the state of confusion I now pronounce you, no. wait. I mean ego te rediculo.

Besides, this is a Dominican Shoppe. Breaking the ‘rule’ is not a sin, only a fault.

And, of course, this is why God gave us all each other. When some slip, the others carry them for a while.

It’s August already?

I sincerely hope not.

Just trying to plan. It's what I do to avoid doing actual work.

Of course, in the new translation the response to
ego te ridiculo
is
Et tu pretty darn ridiculosus es yo' own se'f.

And may God bless you as well.

Just read through the thread Thursday before going to opthamalogist about what I thought was a retinal tear ~ which it was ~ had successful surgery for 7 tears later that day.

All is well and the eye will be saved.

Dear Muayiwah!

Praise GOD! Wow! I am so glad to hear this! Me, myself, personally, I would have been a wreck. I would STILL be a wreck.

(In fact, I AM a wreck owing to this persistent sleep problem, but that’s another story.)

I can’t speak for the other folks on this thread, but it is a blessing to me that you shared this with us.

Thank you!

Fellow Pilgrims!

Another Lord’s Day.

Today, it’s a safe bet, we will sin, and we will repent.

And with the gift of humility, we can at once acknowledge our sins and let them go because
... the love of God is broader
than the measure of man’s mind;
and the heart of the Eternal
is most wonderfully kind.

It’s not that our sins don’t matter. They matter dreadfully. They cost the Blood of Christ and all His sorrows,

But that great cost is swallowed up by the far greater eagerness of Christ to pay it.

What a fool would a debtor be, who, his debts being paid by the graciousness of a generous patron, would spend more energy bewailing his debts that wondering at the kindness of the patron!

And so we can see that despair is tied up with pride, and joy with humility.

May the joy fill our hearts, and drive out pride.

The total time for surgery was 3 hours. I'd talked to the surgeon before hand about my experience with anesthetics and how I'd undergone cataract surgery several years back without any.

Anyway, I woke up 1.5 hours into the surgery. He was not surprised and continued working knowing I could lay still ~ which I did.

Probably a correct frame of mind for the day's events.

Your thread helped.

We should NEVER, EVER, underestimate God's overpoweringly generous response to the least prayer on our part.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I'm assuming you had at least a local of some kind, right? Anybody comes at my baby-blues with a scalpel he'd better have me drugged up real good. I am the foremost of babies.
