Isn't that what we do in Confession, anyway? Well, that's a good question. For me, going to Confession doesn't really feel like "humiliation." (Maybe I'm just not doing it right!) After all, God already knows my sins before I go into the confessional, and I've already told Him that I know I messed up, and Father already has a good idea, and he's not going to tell anyone ... so "externally," as it were, I could go on just as before, and nobody knows.
To me, "humiliation" implies that everyone, or at least people I want to impress, are going to know that I'm not all that plus a real-meat cheezburger after all.

Thanks for the ping.
Lord, help me to be humble today. I’ll need it.

What some saints say about humility:
"Humility is nothing but truth, and pride is nothing but lying." ~ St. Vincent de Paul
"Do you wish to rise? Begin by descending. You plan a tower that will pierce the clouds? Lay first the foundation of humility." ~Saint Augustine
"Humility is the virtue that requires the greatest amount of effort." ~St. Philippine Duchesne
"No man has understanding if he is not humble, and he who lacks humility is devoid of understanding. No man is humble if he is not peaceful, and he who is not peaceful is not humble. And no man is peaceful without rejoicing. In all the paths upon which men journey in this world they will find no peace, until they draw nigh to hope in God." ~ St. Isaac the Syrian
"Humility is constant forgetfulness of one's achievements." ~ St. John Climacus
"If pride turned some of the angels into demons, then humility can doubtless make angels out of demons. So take heart, all you sinners." ~ St. John Climacus
I saw the snares that the enemy spreads out over the world and I said groaning, "What can get through from such snares?" Then I heard a voice saying to me, "Humility." ~St. Anthony the Great

And a prayer:
Suscipe
St. Ignatius Loyola, who established the Jesuit order, wrote the Suscipe prayer during the sixteenth century. Second Exodus recommends that every Catholic take the entire Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, an extremely powerful thirty day retreat that each person can take either at home or at a monastery retreat house. But we can begin our journey with the Suscipe prayer which begins each day of the thirty day retreat by offering ourselves, whole and entire, to Christ our king.

Suscipe, Domine, universam meam libertatem. Accipe memoriam, intellectum, atque voluntatem omnem. Quidquid habeo vel possideo mihi largitus es; id tibi totum restituo, ac tuae prorsus voluntati trado gubernandum. Amorem tui solum cum gratia tua mihi dones, et dives sum satis, hec aliud quidquam ultra posco. |
Receive, O Lord, all my liberty. Take my memory, my understanding, and my entire will. Whatsoever I have or possess Thou hast bestowed upon me; I give it all back to Thee and surrender it wholly to be governed by Thy Will. Give me love for Thee alone along with Thy grace, and I am rich enough and ask for nothing more. |

I got a big smack of humility myself yesterday.
I guess I asked for it. Thanks for the reminder and you’re in my prayers.

This is your, “Guess what, my new blood pressure drug causes insomnia,” 10:00 AM, “morning already?” call.
God is telling me that I am going to have to reduce my cholesterol and BP by abstemious living instead of with meds.
yeah, like that's gonna happen. Still with God, even self-indulgence can be amended ...
So, is long life better than bacon? You decide.
Anyway as I, with Norvasc headache and fatigue, greet you, I tearfully, no really, thank God for my brothers and sisters and for the opportunity to pray with you.
May we all, being drawn closer to Him and His awful humility, be drawn closer to one another and be gladdened by God's gifts to each other.
And thank YOU, from the bottom of my evidently sclerotic and overworked heart.

Praying for your health too.
Faith believes, hope prays, and charity begs in order to give to otherc.
Humility of the heart forms the prayer, confidence speaks it, and
perseverance triumphs over God Himself. -St. Peter Julian Eymard
