Yes well why not...

Jesus did just that in the Christian Bible...

and Jesus is our example...

or would you rather Elsie just kill people, castrate men and seduce women like the mormon lord, Joey Smith did ???

I’m not sure that we remove references to the cross in our hymns. Just off the top of my head I can think of plenty of references

“In memory of the crucified”
“Upon the cross of Calvary”
“There is a green hill far away without a city wall, where the dear Lord was crucified who died to save us all”
“With my body on the tree, I have suffered death for thee”

- - - - - -

Then you don’t know your hymnal very well. Or Christian hymns and how the LDS mutilate them. None of those hymns you listed actually talk about the sacrifice for sin on the cross, only the death (I looked them up). There are several Hymns that the LDS took out references to the cross by selective choice of verses. For all the saints is one of them.

By SAYING the sin bearing took place in the garden denigrates the cross.

I’m talking about hymns like When I survey the wondrous Cross - a favorite for Christians. Now THIS a hymn about the cross:

When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died,
My richest gain I count but loss,
And pour contempt on all my pride.

Forbid it, Lord, that I should boast,
Save in the death of Christ my God!
All the vain things that charm me most,
I sacrifice them to His blood.

See from His head, His hands, His feet,
Sorrow and love flow mingled down!
Did e’er such love and sorrow meet,
Or thorns compose so rich a crown?

His dying crimson, like a robe,
Spreads o’er His body on the tree;
Then I am dead to all the globe,
And all the globe is dead to me.

Were the whole realm of nature mine,
That were a present far too small;
Love so amazing, so divine,
Demands my soul, my life, my all.

[Added by the compilers of Hymns Ancient and Modern]

To Christ, who won for sinners grace
By bitter grief and anguish sore,
Be praise from all the ransomed race
Forever and forevermore.

Of course we don’t denigrate Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. That is completely untrue.

- - -
Then why don’t you use them? Why do the LDS shun it as a symbol? Because the REAL atoning for sin took place in the garden not the Cross.

Take up your Garden, Norm. (eyeroll)

Just perusing FR on the “comments” tab, and so I may be butting in with a tangent, but there is a difference in perception among a large population of Christians.

A cross, alone, used as a symbol, is almost always a Protestant thing. To Protestants, the vacant cross symbolizes victory, for He is Risen.

A cross showing the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ, used as a symbol, is almost always a Catholic thing. The suffering and the sacrifice is the important symbolism.

I’m not saying one is good and one is bad. I do fall in the “Protestant” camp, though, and am acquainted with many people who are quite bothered by crosses showing the Crucifixion. To them, and to me I suppose although I’m not quite so strident about it, such a cross glorifies death and verges upon denying Resurrection.

For what it’s worth.

Post after endless post, spewing filth about my Church and my faith and my Savior, and you tell me to shut up.
_______________________________________________

And yet when Joey Smith did that to Jesus, he was given a bully pulpit by the mormons...

why is it OK for Joey Smith to “spew filth” about the Church of the LORD Jesus Christ of the Christian Bible...

and yet its not OK for the followers of Jesus to expose and point out and correct the lies told by Joey Smith...

Sandy it appears your posts are disingenuous...

You aren’t missing much by not reading the BoM. A whole lot of ‘and it came to pass’ and some verses plagiarized from the Bible.

Finding out the truth about Mormonism DID hurt me Resty. I put my faith in a false religion and a false church and fining that out hurt, badly.

But it was SO worth all the pain and confusion and anguish because finding out the TRUTH about the LDS led me to a REAL pure relationship (not religion) with Jesus Christ. A saving relationship that is not possible in Mormonism.

So, yes, I know...the truth hurts but Christ is SO worth it!

No, I will hit the abuse button whenever puny mortal holier-than-thou know-it-alls have the nerve to act for God Almighty and condemn another person, or group of persons, to hell.Being so pompous as to actually think you know who is going to hell (me) and who is not going to hell (you) is creepy, disgusting, ugly, mean spirited, and non-Christian (to say the least).

- - - -
Not at all, Sandy. It is BIBLICAL and you just called Christ holier than thou (which is true but still...), puny and non-Christian (which is REALLY funny).

You don’t have to go to hell. You can still renounce Mormonism and Joseph Smith and that cult and come to the REAL Jesus of the Bible.

I didn’t write the Bible, I just quote it.

"It is a known fact that those who read their scriptures daily or often and do the will of the Lord do not apostized"

I did read the Bible Resty, that's why I left the LdS religion.

"How silly if one were to go outer darkness would it not be their own doing...

The attitude of many here seems pretty much in line with those of telestial kingdom.

Better read up on what your church actually believes and teaches Resty.

According to mormon doctrine (prophets and apostles) because I left the LdS church, I and others like me are to be cast into outer darkness.

The Savior of the Christians, the LORD Jesus Christ NEVER needed His Church “restored”..

AMEN, nana!

I’m sitting here listening to Chris Tomlin’s Hark the Herald Angels sing right now.

Christ - God incarnate. Not ‘a’ god (one of millions) but THE God please with man to dwell, to suffer and die for us on the Cross. That kind of love deserves our all and deserves to be shouted from the rooftops.

I’m a Protestant...

I never thought of the difference...

I have no objection to the Cross having Jesus upon it...

I have owned a couple like that over the years...

However empty or occupied the Cross is the symbol of Christ’s suffering, shed blood and death on the Cross and resurrection for our salvation..

It all happened at the Cross and there was no other place or event that was part of the death that Jesus suffered in our place to pay the ultimate penalty for our sins...

Jesus Himself said “It is finished” John 19:30

and it was...Jesus had done a complete work of salvation for us...

Tnhat is the reason that He came down from Heaven...The only one to ever do that...

When we go to Heaven we will be going to a place we have never been before...

Jesus started out in Heaven as God, the Word, the Third Person of the Trinity...

We humans started out on Earth and get to go to be with God in Heaven because of what Jesus did for us...

It was a finished work...we have no works that we need to do to be saved...

We arte saved by the Grace of the LORD Jesus Christ...a free gift to us from God our Father in Heaven...John 3:16

You are going to hit ‘abuse’ on Joseph Smith??? That is exactly what he did yet the LDS sing praises to him. odd that.

But neither group shun the cross. The LDS do.

And your points are correct (even if a bit off topic). :)

I have a couple of crucifixes, but what I usually wear is a ‘robed cross’ or resurrection cross. An empty cross with a robe draped over the cross beams. It is (to me) a symbol of both the death and resurrection.

He is risen!

I’ve told you and told you what the bible says about how to become a child of God but you refuse to believe it. But I will remind you again that we are by default NOT his children.
