Priests are a gift from the Heart of Christ, Pope Benedict says
CNA ^ | 6/13/2010

Vatican City, Jun 13, 2010 / 10:58 am (CNA/EWTN News).- Thousands of pilgrims and faithful gathered at noon Sunday in St. Peter’s Square to pray the Angelus with the Holy Father. Before the prayer, he said that the fruits of the recently ended Year for Priests could never be measured, but are already visible and will continue to be ever more so.

“The priest is a gift from the heart of Christ, a gift for the Church and for the world. From the heart of the Son of God, overflowing with love, all the goods of the Church spring forth,” proclaimed Pope Benedict XVI. “One of those goods is the vocations of those men who, conquered by the Lord Jesus, leave everything behind to dedicate themselves completely to the Christian community, following the example of the Good Shepherd.”

The Holy Father described the priest as having been formed by “the same charity of Christ, that love which compelled him to give his life for his friends and to forgive his enemies.”

“Therefore,” he continued, “priests are the primary builders of the civilization of love.”

Benedict XVI exhorted priests to always seek the intercession of St. John Marie Vianney, whose prayer, the “Act of Love,” was prayed frequently during the Year for Priests, and “continues to fuel our dialogue with God.”

The pontiff also spoke about the close of the Year for Priests, which took place this past week and culminated with the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. He emphasized “the unforgettable days in the presence of more than 15,000 priests from around the world.”

The feast of the Sacred Heart is traditionally a “day of priestly holiness,” but this time it was especially so, Benedict XVI remarked.

Pope Benedict concluded his comments by noting that, in contemplating history, “one observes so many pages of authentic social and spiritual renewal which have been written by the decisive contribution of Catholic priests.” These were inspired “only by their passion for the Gospel and for mankind, for his true civil and religious freedom.”

“So many initiatives that promote the entire human being have begun with the intuition of a priestly heart,” he exclaimed.

The Pope then prayed the Angelus, greeted those present in various languages, and imparted his apostolic blessing.

Apparently you haven't noticed that these are spiritual sacrifices, not physical...Any you haven't noticed the sacrifices are performed by ALL, not just 'ministers'...
But then don't let a little scripture ruin your warped theology

Exactly

I wasn't hijacking the thread, I was impeaching your argument that scripture was the only acceptable standard for validating a Catholic Priesthood. So either defend your premise or withdraw it.

"No you were trying to change the subject.. start a new thread if you want to debate sola scriptura."

Don't try to read my mind. You offered a feeble attack on the validity of the Catholic Priesthood based upon the general principle of sola scriptura (falsely) claiming that because it wasn't specified in New testament scripture it was invalid. I am simply demonstrating that Protestants don't adhere to that standard in numerous instances thereby impeaching it as a factor in this discussion. Again, defend it or withdraw it.

Quoting the Talmud are we?

Well, that’s just fine.

Except one thing: if it’s not fair game for me to deal with the Church Fathers (that nasty tradition thing, you know), then it’s no fair for you to cite the Talmud (again, that nasty tradition thing, you know)

Which will it be?

I am not arguing over how best to translate “presbyteros”. I have simply pointed out that in the scripture, “presbyteros” is subject to apostolic succession and that the apostle’s task was to consecrate the Eucharist, that is, be priests.

The Hebrew levitical priesthood was indeed inherited, but this is why it is separate form the Catholic priesthood.

lol. Why don’t you give us the answers to those many questions you posed in 115? It will be good practice for you.

Jesus never instituted a priesthood

I just showed you where the scripture records that He did.

So, where are the Protestant heresies of Sola Scriptura and Sola Fide in the scripture?

Your obfuscation is in character. I never expected a serious or correct response from you anyway.

"Why don’t you give us the answers to those many questions you posed in 115?"

The answer is the same for all questions. The source is the same Apostolic Tradition that produced the bible you claim holds everything except the answers to the dogmatic inconsistencies of Protestantism posed by those questions.

lol. "Apostolic tradition" (however Rome decides to redefine that term today) did not "produce the Bible."

The Bible reiterates the teaching of Jesus Christ as learned and taught by the apostles with words and sentences in black and white.

Not amorphous, changeable "tradition."

You demand answers to 28 questions that are off-topic. And then you are either surprised or not surprised that no one takes the bait, depending on your comment.

You've stated in post 133 "apostolic tradition" (whatever that is) answers all 28 questions.

You are wrong.

Apostolic tradition does not define the trinity, nor answer the rest of your questions. The word of God answers those questions, confirmed by church fathers and councils and synods and statements of faith and practice.

But interestingly, you write those 28 questions as if they were your own. No attribution.

And yet here they are on this Roman Catholic website...

QUESTIONS FOR BIBLE CHRISTIANS

Seems dishonest for someone to pass off those questions as their own.

And I see you posted those questions to me on another thread earlier. Yet still no attribution then or now.

Just two posts that supposedly were written by Natural Law.

And now we know they were not.

Twice.

Looks like it's becoming a tradition.

I know you are sola scriptura. That is why I was very, very surprised to see you quote a non-scriptural reference in anything in our discussions (anyplace, not just here).

The Talmud is a collection of Jewish rabbinical teachings. And the funny part about it is that it was compiled after the New Testament was compiled (yes I know it represents oral teaching that is far more ancient, but...)

The bit about the Matzos and the wine cups that you cited (a/k/a the Seder) comes from the Talmud. Specifically tractate Pesahim in Seder Moem.

Thanks for the link. These are actually 38 questions at your link, and then a few bonus ones. The questions at your link match some of the questions at 115 but not all. So I invite your gaggle to ponder the totality of the questions at 115, plus at the link:

QUESTIONS FOR BIBLE CHRISTIANS

Don't forget the bonus ones.

For more information, that excellent link suggests, go to www.catholic-convert.com

For myself, I would be happy if the two glaring errors of Protestantism are explained to me from the Scripture, the SOla Fide and Sola Scriptura. Yeah, that, too, was asked by many people before.

If people ask you the same questions, that must be because you do not have answers.

I never claimed them to be my own, you must have been mind reading again. The original authorship is not relevant and does not invalidate the questions. They are not trick questions, only unanswerable within the the Calvinist heresy.
