the church doctrine which believes its priests to be "another Christ." An "alter Christus."

Still selling this falsehood, DE?

Really?

"alter Christus" does not mean "another Christ."

The Latin phrase for "another Christ" is "alius Christus" not "alter Christus."

The medieval Latin word "alter" means "likeness." The job of a priest (like that of all Christians) is to emulate Christ. More specifically for priests, to offer the Mass like Christ offered the Last Supper.

In 1 Corinthians 11:1 St. Paul specifically calls himself such an emulator of Christ.

I'm not "selling" anything. I'm relaying what Roman Catholic priests teach about themselves. The RC habit of changing the meaning of words when the truth is inconvenient is getting old. Read this...

THE AMAZING GIFT OF THE PRIESTHOOD
by Father Kenneth Baker

"...Simply stated, the Catholic priest is another Christ. Through his ordination he has been granted the amazing gift of being a channel of divine grace for the eternal salvation of those he come into contact with — both in his official ministry and in his personal life..."

So we have a well-known Roman Catholic priest telling us that Rome believes its priests are "another Christ...both in his official ministry and in his personal life."

Did you get that? Even "in his personal life."

Sick.

I think you may be mistaken about "alter."

But seriously, to look at the counter-assertion is to see that we are not arguing with folks who can read or who care to. The priest at the altar or in reconciliation is, as the quote says, a channel. It is like the way a spring and a pipe carrying water from the spring are the same -- and importantly different.

Those whose attention is fixed on human things see only the priest. Those however who thirst for the water of life, drink it, are satisfied, and know better than some Protestants seem to know the difference between a spring and a pipe. But, as I say, it is because they drink the water, which is the same whether it reaches their lips from the Spring or from the pipe.

You don't thin a serious concern for the truth has anything to do with this, do you?

"alter Christus" does not mean "another Christ."

But what if someone REALLY WANTS it to mean that?
