Vivian Cade remembers tension, even violence, when immigrants began settling in this agricultural region of central Florida a few decades ago. Trinity’s congregation was not easily integrated. But, now, Vivian is learning Spanish ... and about soccer.

The baseball field(America's pastime) gets turned into a soccer field and Vivian must learn Spanish in order for there to be no violence.

Spanish is actually a great language to learn. Plus there is nothing better than hearing Spanish people talking about you in line and you can speak back and they are shocked...lol. Only happened once but it was fun. I am white male who learned Spanish four years in high school, two semesters in college and was stationed in Panama for two years in the late 80’s. It has paid huge dividends over the years and really it was not a huge effort to learn. Give it a try and see how much you could use it in day to day life.

Uh...did you read the story? Vivian Cade is not an immigrant. She's a white, native Floridian who's learning Spanish and even watching a bit of soccer. There is absolutely no harm in either.

Oh come on. There is plenty of room in the American culture for soccer. We’re not stuck with football and baseball.
