Vivian’s apathy about our cultural death spiral makes her my enemy.

Spanish and soccer, I can’t think of two less worthwhile things to learn about.

It’s truly frightening that you believe that. So as an American, she should be duty bound to avoid learning Spanish or enjoying soccer? Give me a break.

Watching a dog scratch fleas is more exciting than soccer.

Here’s a good chant.

“Inmigrantes ilegales, son ladrones criminales!”

It rhymes very well in Spanish.

Spanish is actually a great language to learn. Plus there is nothing better than hearing Spanish people talking about you in line and you can speak back and they are shocked...lol. Only happened once but it was fun. I am white male who learned Spanish four years in high school, two semesters in college and was stationed in Panama for two years in the late 80’s. It has paid huge dividends over the years and really it was not a huge effort to learn. Give it a try and see how much you could use it in day to day life.

Uh no. I think the immigrants are duty bound to assimilate. Period. I have nothing against celebrating one’s heritage but this article seems to celebrate the death of traditional Americanism

Uh...did you read the story? Vivian Cade is not an immigrant. She's a white, native Floridian who's learning Spanish and even watching a bit of soccer. There is absolutely no harm in either.

Yes I read the story. I posted it. You are missing the point. We are witnessing the supplantation of American culture.

Oops. Meant to say that I was going to post it until I saw that someone else did & that’s why I commented on it. I just think you are missing the point I was trying to make with my comments.

Oh come on. There is plenty of room in the American culture for soccer. We’re not stuck with football and baseball.
