In German, there is much less danger of confusion, since many such words or phrases are practically self-explanatory, to whit:
The Assumption of Mary into Heaven = Mariä Himmelfahrt
The Feast of the Immaculate Conception = Mariä Empfängnis
Nativity of Mary = Mariä Geburt
In fact, the names of many other religious holidays make more sense / are more readily understood / impart more meaning in German, while the corresponding English phrases will be rather obscure to anyone without at least a familiarity with Latin or Ancient Greek:
Maundy Thursday = Gründonnerstag (from Old High German grînan = grimace in pain)
Good Friday = Karfreitag (from Old High German kara = care/sadness)
Feast of the Epiphany = Dreikönigstag
Oh, and, by the way: It's spelled "my eight-year-old," with hyphens.
