Yet God makes it clear in scripture that individuals are supposed to be part of a church.

What defines the "Church?" A building, group of persons, a preacher/pastor/reverend? The "church" in Jesus' time was wherever he went and people congregated to here him speak.

I don't think Jesus visioned some bureaucratic monstrosity created to supposedly worship him.
